Your Mindset Matters!

Mindsets matter because they shape the way we view the world, and hence the way we interact with it.Our mindsets grow out of the experiences we have. And it is our mindsets that determine our behaviour. When we make our mindsets conscious – by bringing them to the foreground – we begin to have choices about how we interact with the world and can more purposefully choose to be the person we want to be, to do the things we want to do, in order to have the results we want to have.

‘‘Nurturing ‘intrinsic’ motivation rather than ‘extrinsic’ should be the focus of educators. If a

person is engaged in some activity for reasons of intrinsic motivation and if he/she begins to

receive the external reward, money, for performing the activity, the degree to which

he/she is intrinsically motivated to perform the activity decreases.’’

Edward Deci, 1971
