2. Solar System The solar system is made up of the sun, its planets, asteroids, meteoroids, and comets. Each of these bodies are held to each other by the force of gravity. 3. Sun A star that is the basis of the solar system and that sustains life on Earth, being the source of heat and light. It is about 865,000 miles in diameter.
