No Negative Attitudes Allowed
Ever hear someone say,
• “Things are not how they should be!”• “It was better back when…”• “Let’s go back to the basic 3 R’s.”• “I am sick and tired of change.”
Got another good line like those?
Here’s your goal!
I’m ecstatic! This i
s fun!
Except when…
“This has never happened before…”
I hate this computer!!!Tim
e for a
nother upgrade.
Let’s start with a wiki!
So- what is Web 2.0?
It simply means interactive online content.
You can share digital content across virtual space.
And what’s Cloud Computing?
It just means accessed from the Internet (not stored on your computer).
Let’s make a podcast!
• Download Audacity from http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
• Check your programs- you may already have it.• All you need is a microphone and speakers.
How to create a podcast.
• Click on the red button to record.• Save your project as an mp3.
Let’s put our podcast on the wiki
• Upload the mp3• Decide what page we
want to put it on• Link the mp3 podcast
Icons and Apps
They’re everywhere!!
Blogs: a whole new way to learn
Where can you find the best blogs?
Try the top 100 blogs for educators at http://oedb.org/library/features/top-100-education-blogs
What’s RSS!
• RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication.”• RSS is a news aggregator.• You can subscribe to news sources and blogs!
How do I start subscribing?
• Choose an aggregator.• I use Google Reader, but there are many.
Let’s try it out!
Why do I need to use RSS?
• The news has changed! (Discuss amongst yourselves.)
• The hierarchy of information has toppled in our lifetime. (No longer top-down.)
• Educators must be familiar with new media formats because the next generation has moved on.
My Media Format Tree(Catalog cards, filmstrips, newspapers, floppy disks, cassette tapes, and other changing media formats)
For next mediamonday….
• Post something on the wiki.• Take a look at google docs• Let’s try twitter• Got ideas to share or other tools? (We can create a Tech Tools to Try wiki page!)
And the learning continues…
