2. Courage Timeline
Martha didnt make that much money from teaching, but she still bought materials to make costumes from the little money that she had.
Martha started dance when she was 22 and most people start when they are 9 or 10. She auditioned to dance for Ruth St. Denis which was a very good dance school when she had just started to dance.
Martha Graham wanted to become a dancer even though the people of that time thought that you shouldnt dance for a career.
Graham rebelled against the traditional ballet and started her own kind of dance called modern. Other dances that also rebelled were, Doris Humphrey, Charles Weidman and also others.

Martha decided to have men in her company. A lot of people didnt agree with having men in the company and left.
Martha got invitedto dance in Nazi, Germany but she knew that the Jews werent being treated equally there, so Graham refused because some dancers in her group were Jewish. No other American Dance Company danced there that year.
In the show Cave of the Heart, one of theactors was a Japanese American girl. Marthas group was the first to have Asians and African Americans in her group before the civil rights movement.
Martha started to get arthritis in her knees and hands but still danced. By the end of the show, Every Soul Is a Circus, Grahams knee was the size of a grapefruit.

Determined-red
Throughout Marthas life she was very determined. One specific example was after Martha saw one of Ruth St. Deniss shows, Graham really wanted to become a dancer. At 22 years old she started dance and auditioned for Ruth St. Deniss dance studio.

8. Room Design for Martha Graham
I chose this indoor room for Martha because it has a studio and a office to work. Martha Graham loved to dance, so she would need a studio to dance. Graham would also need a office to work on show ideas.
9. Medal For Martha Graham
I chose to do this medal because Martha traveled all over the world dancing for the people there. The globe represents that. She was very creative because she was a pioneer in modern dance. She was also creative during her dances and for her costumes. The rainbow flowers represent creativity because it shows all the creative moods that Graham had in her dances.

I chose this song because it is one of the songs that Martha danced to. The dance is called Lamentation and it is a very famous dance. This song and dance is the mood that most of Grahams dances are. Martha danced it as a solo and her costume was atube of fabric.
