1Start wrapping
your wire tightly around
your NAILcopper winding

The Positive side of battery connect to the top side of nail, it will be the North pole of magnet . Then connect the negative side of battery to the other side of nail, it will be the South pole of magnet

Making an electromagnet uses up the battery
somewhat quickly which is why the battery may get warm, so disconnect the wires when you are done
exploring.
