Mr. Kong Siong Yung iscurrently 30 years old, who is acivil engineer, working in ICONCONSULTING ENGINEERS SDNBHD. He graduated from theUniversity Science Malaysia in2009. Right after he graduated,he got hired by JuruteraPerunding Alpha Reka as a

junior engineer. He workedthere for about 3 years, thenhe started working at IconConsulting Engineers SdnBhd at the year 2012 as asenior engineer. He has 6years working experience inconstruction industry.

This project is a 30 storiesapartment located atBelakong, Cheras andcurrently 90% done.To design an apartment, Ihave to focus on theconfiguration of apartmentdevelopment to use in thedesign process andpreparation of project. Then, Ihave to identifying the contestand develop the controls likeprimary controls,

building envelopes, buildingheight, depth and seperation.Electrical engineer is siting thedevelopment such as publicdomain interface , commercialand public open space, deepsoil zone , visual privacy,pedestrian access and entries ,vehicle access and car parkingand extra.

The biggest challenge during thisproject is there are someproblem with the concrete grade.The concrete grade after test islower than the expected grade.After some investigation , we findout that the main reason is theratio of material have slightlywrong. Ratio of material is veryimportant as a little mistake maycause a big problem duringconstruction.After studying theproblem, we come out with asolution that is strengten theconcrete. After completion,as adesign engineer i have to preparea Borang F for approval of thedesign of structure.

Located at Belakong, Cheras.

Mr. Kong was tasked to workwith architects, town plannerand mechanical engineer. Hewas also tasked to construct

the building with a givendesign.

For this project, we wererequired to build factorycompounds to containmachines that producessulphuric acid.Before westarted the project,we realisedthat we had many challengesto contain machines thatproduces sulphuric acid, dueto our lack of knowledge offactory construction. We hadto do a lot of study aboutfactory layouts and designs.Another problem we faced

before construction was thatthe soil condition of the sitewas too soft. We then cameup with an economicalsolution by piling foundationon top of the soil to ensure asafe ground.During theproject, we had problemsworking with the because allthe manuals were inmandarin because themachines were from China.We had to take our time totranslate and extract asmuch information about the

machines as possible. Luckily, one ofmy colleagues know how to readChinese, he helped out a lot in thisarea. After all the problems aresolved, the building is finally close tocompletion. At last, the project wascompleted after a year and a half.Located at Pahang, Malaysia

JOB SCOPE &RESPONSIBILITYMr. Kong's responsibility andjob scope for this projectwas to design 8 compoundsto contain the machines.Furthermore, he also guidedsome junior engineers alongduring this project.

Q: WHAT DO YOUDO ON A USUALDAY?

A: For me, it is very simple, ijust hope that everyone willbe able to own a house. Thatis why i am studying and atthe same time researchingon how to build moreeffective, more economicalstructured houses.

A: I will check my email in themorning when i reach myoffice, after that, i will go outfor meetings, like technicalmeetings, client consultantmeetings, site meetings andmore. Then i will be in theoffice to do design works,and also check on somejunior's works.

A: Be more hardworking, andnot to be lazy. Do not expecteverything can be done digitally.The understanding of theory,manners and cooperation is themost important.

A: Yes, i have an uncle who is acivil engineer, specialising intransportation. I learnt a lotabout civil engineering. Mybrother also studied engineerand is working as an engineernow. I was mostly inspired bythem.
