1) StudioMany heavy metal magazines take photos of musicians in studios, which is useful if you want to create a powerful and striking effect because you can change the background and use the one, which in your opinion suits the best and can attract readers’ attention. I have put some examples of front
covers from 3 different metal magazines. And as you can see all of the photos are taken in the studio and the background is in dark colours, which adds the front cover more of a heavy metal flavour and makes it more relevant to the genre. So using a studio for photo-shoot has some technical advantages.
Alternatives to studio photo-shoot
Photo-shoot in urban areasUse a brick wall as a background. It can be used as a good background for the heavy metal magazine because it matches the genre well since it is gritty, which gives it a mysterious and edgy impression
Photo-shoot using natureBy using different times of the day I can create the tone that in my opinion suits my magazine the best. For example I might use a sunset as a background because it creates a mysterious and moody impression, which suits my music genre well.
