VISION FOR MUSEUM NAN EILEAN

• The new vision is defined by what we do.

• We will operate in a dynamic way in which communities work together to preserve, interpret, and manage their dispersed heritage assets for a sustainable future.

• Be a museum of the people for the people, which is representative of all the communities and islands of the Outer Hebrides.

• Provide a service that will build strong partnerships with community heritage groups and recognise the unique role of Comainn Eachdraidh as custodians of local heritage

• Safeguard the collections of the Outer Hebrides and make them accessible for the benefit of the present and future generations

• Raise the local, national and global profile of the environment and cultural heritage of the Outer Hebrides

• Encourage people to explore the links between the interconnected heritage sites, Comainn Eachdraidh collections, and the natural and historic environment which tell the stories of the Outer Hebrides.

• Inspire, build confidence and stimulate cultural activity throughout the island chain

• Build confidence in the local culture and the Gaelic language while respecting diversity and embracing change
