DESCRIPTION
Following my recent article 'Ofsted’s “’Lefty’ Child-Centred Teaching” & The Conditions for Deep Learning' at www.petereccles.co.uk I thought it might enhance the points made by describing a possible template for reviewing learning. In my article I argue that deep learning has cognitive, emotional, strategic and social elements which, with the help of a mentor, can easily be reviewed easily leading to a valuable conversation about learning. The benefits of the graph (or anything similar for that matter) include the easy, quick snapshot of learning and the versatility to be repeated as often as the teacher or system requires. Above all, graphs like this one remind me of really valuable and enjoyable mentoring meetings I conducted with students who grew significantly in their ability to review their own learning strengths and needs with ever-increasing articulacy. Try it or something similar and reap the rewards!
