GAME DESIGN

What were we doing before?

What skills have you learnt in Blender?

This weekWe are going to begin your 3D project in earnest.

For your 3D project you will be given a client briefSci-Fi FPSFantasy RPGModern Racer

You will need to plan a game level and all the models needed for your chosen brief

Researching your ideas

Creating concept art for your ideas

Create & texture the models in Blender

Then arrange your models in your scene and render some images

You will need toManage your timePlan effectivelyResearch your ideaCreate concept art or overhead plansCreate a proposal for your game levelCreate 3D modelsCreate a 3D environment and arrange your models in themRender out 360 images of your environment

How many models will I need to create? You will need to create a minimum of 6 models, which should show off your modelling & texturing skills.

You will then need to create an environment and arrange them in it, rendering out images from at least 4 different camera angles.

Step 1: BriefIf youre struggling for ideas pick 1 of the game briefs from below.Sci-Fi FPSFantasy RPGModern Racer

5 mins

Step 2We need to find out what people expect to see from each type of game (ie. Its Key Visual Themes)

20 mins

For your game type create: 1 x mood-board for its genre (eg. Sci-fi)

1 x mood board for its game type (eg.FPS)

Step 2: Mood BoardYou should look at movies, games, artwork, books, etc to find out the defining features of each.

Step 3: Annotate mood BoardsNow, write notes on your mood-board explaining what you have found out

This is a robot from The Terminator films. People expect to see robots or cyborgs in science-fiction themed games. They are often used as enemies in computer games.

Step 4Whole class feedback.

Step 5: Initial ideasYou need to come up with a concept for a game. Your concept should explain: who the avatar isWhat their goal isWhat the games story is (in its simplest form)What challenges they faceHow they can overcome these challenges

Create a brainstorm for this. When youre done photograph the brainstorm and submit it to the Pre-Production Portfolio assignment on Moodle.

20 mins

Step 6: The BlurbYou need to write your game concept up as the blurb on the back cover of an xbox game

You will add your final renders, the blurb and cover art to a template on Moodle and hand this in at the projects end.

10 mins

HOMEWORKWrite up your blurb before next weeks lesson.
