Unit 6 Nature
Where can you find water in nature?• You can find water in
sea river
lake waterfall
stream
You can also find water...
snow rain clouds
icebergunderground
What is water like?
• Water has no colour. It is colourless.• Water has no taste. It is tasteless.• Water has no smell. It is odourless.
The states of water
We can find water in nature in 3 different states:• When it is very cold, water turns into a solid: ice or snow.• At room temperature water is a liquid.• When it is very hot, water turns into a gas. It is called
water vapour.
Changes of state
• The change from liquid water to water vapour is called evaporation.• When liquid water changes to a solid it is called freezing.• When water vapour turns into a liquid,it is called condensation.• When ice changes to liquid water, it is called melting.

The water cycleEvaporation • The sun heats up water in oceans, rivers or lakes. Water
changes from liquid to water vapour. It leaves the oceans, rivers or lakes and goes up in the air.
The Water CycleCondensation• Water vapour in the air gets cold and changes back into tiny drops of
liquid water forming clouds.
The Water CyclePrecipitation• The clouds get heavy and water falls back to the earth
as rain, hail or snow.

Snow
The Water cycleCollection• Water from the rain, snow of hail falls back into
lakes, rivers and oceans. Rivers go to the sea... and the water cycle starts again.
Water cycleThe water cycle is a continuous process of evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection. It is happening everywhere and all the time. It never stops!!!!!!!
Day and night The Sun shines during the day. We see the Sun in
different positions at different times of the day.
The Sun is rising in the morning.
It is midday. The Sun is high up in the sky. The Sun in
the afternoon.
The Sun is setting
How do we have day and night? When the Sun shines on one part of the Earth it is day there. It is night on the part of the Earth where the Sun is not shining. The Earth rotates around itself. It takes 24 hours to do one full spin.

The Sun• The Sun is a big star which give us light and heat.• The Earth is a planet that revolves around the Sun.• The Earth takes 365 days (1 year) to travel around the Sun.• The Earth also rotates around itself. It takes 24 hours (one day) to do a
full spin.
