3. CONVENTIONSYou know that this is an opening scene because
its almost like aestablishing camera shot but with more movement
involved. Alsoopening scenes very rarely have dialogue, if they do
then itsprobably noises and a bit of laughter or crying. In this
scene there isa lot of laughter and small little sounds like that.
Another conventionof film openings is background music, which this
opening scene hasthroughout till end, this is to just get a feel of
what the movie is goingto be about, similar to a establishing shot,
but in more of a movieway.
4. SHOT TYPESThere are a lot of angle types in this opening
scene for example midclose ups, over the shoulder, aerial shots,
establishing shot,Steadicam shots, top shot, tracking shot. This
film opening has a lotof shots where more then one person is on the
shot because thereare a lot of characters in this movie, and in a
limited time they needto show exactly who is in it so they have to
use crowd shots. ThePOV shot is in cooperated when they are on the
roller coaster. Thereare two shots when they are all wearing boxing
gloves and havingfights.
5. EDITINGEditing is a very important job to do within media,
because theediting is what actually makes the films either has high
or low ratings. This is because the editing is done to the film will
control the wholemood of the film and the audience. For example, if
the director wantsthe audience to feel empathy fin a specific part
in the film, thedirector may tell the editor to use close up, cut
in and over theshoulder shots to ensure that the audience can see
the charactersbody language, facial expressions and to see from the
characterseyes.
6. MISE-EN-SCENEMise-en-scene elements are used quit a bit in
this film opening.Firstly the type of props used for example
playing boxing gloves, kidtype swords this shows that this is a
comedy movie. The cast isanother element as all the characters from
this movie have been inmany pervious movies playing a comedy role;
this again shows usthat this movie is a comedy. Thirdly, they use
high key lighting, whichemphasizes that his movie is a comedy; its
not like a horror with lowkey lighting. Finally, location, they use
locations like back yards withswimming pools and theme parks which
again connotes that thismovie is a comedy as they dont use like
graveyards and places ofworship which would be a whole different
genre.
7. TYPE OF AUDIENCEThey show us the type of audience this movie
is for by thebackground music, if it was a calm piano piece then we
couldconnote to the movie being a drama, romance however this
moviehas live energetic music which is mainly used for funny
things, thisshows that the movie is for an audience who like a good
laugh. Wealso know that this movie is for around 16 years and over
becausethere is violence as they are fighting, also there is also a
scenewhere they are smoking illegal substances so this is more for
olderteenagers. The whole film opening is just friends having a
good timedoing kid like things like jumping in swimming pools,
fighting withboxing gloves, riding roller coasters and just messing
around.
