Collaboration: the action of working with someone to produce or create something.

Getting Started with Google Apps

Remember… it’s a work in progress. Today YOU will be in the

students’ seats.

Experience what it is like to be part of my 3rd grade classroom.

Learn first hand which Google Apps I use and how.

Class Groups

Group yourselves into groups of 4. If this is not possible, groups of 5.

These are your classroom/collaboration teams.

Google Mail: The Keys to the Kingdom.

Mail is the core of collaboration● Contact groups● Class updates● Single login● Assignment directions● Links to websites● More!

Please sign into your “student” Google Gmail accounts.

Getting Organized in DocsLet’s give it a go! Go to your Drive ...

To collaborate, you must first organize.

Shared folders take the hassle out of sharing.

Notice:● Color coded folders● Sections for sessions● Student “documents”

Folders: Accessing Your WorkClick open:Collaborative Group Storiesand then Student Stories

Click open the file that matches the last digit in your student email:

If your student number ends in 0 open Student 10 Story

If your student number ends in 1 e.g. Student1, Student11 open Student1 Story.

If your student number ends in 7 e.g. Student7, Student17 open Student7 Story.

Making a Copy and Renaming

Go to file and click on Make a copy

Rename your document.

First part of your email and then whatever you want. Example:Student13 Life Is Good.

Sharing and MovingAfter you open your file clickhere: Next click open: My DriveGoogle Summit Collaborative Group Stories

Last click Move

Peer Editing

Now that you have created you documents let’s edit.

Pick a buddy. Share your doc name.

Five Minute Editing

1. Read your story. 2. Make at least two changes.3. Practice adding comments, highlighting

text.4. Click on All Changes Saved in Drive and

look at your revision history.1. Read your partner’s story. 2. Make one comment in an area they need

to improve. 3. Make a comment in an area they did well

in.4. Highlight an area/areas that need

revision. 5. Write a revision suggestion by typing in a

different color next to the area you highlighted.
