It starts off with Jess Glynn sat in a chair and then it crosscuts to her in various scenes of the house with the use of mid-shots and close-ups. As she is sat in the chair her body is hunched over, presenting her as being upset or closed in terms of her emotions. There is only the use of a single chair in the room, which could be used to signify her loneliness that she’s “wrapped up, so consumed by all this hurt”, due to it being isolated in the middle of the room- the chair is green which complements the red in her hair. This is emphasised by the cold tones of the blues and greens.

There is only one character in the video, who is the artist- Jess Glynn. She is naked throughout the video, but you can only see her face, or the use of props covers her. This is a positive representation of a woman, because she isn’t being promiscuous or showing any part of her body off, it is representing a confident women that could be used as a metaphor to symbolise the fact that she “feel[s] haunted”

However, she is wearing simple gold jewellery that compliments the gold tones in her hair and the faded pinks in the background and nails- this adheres to the stereotype that women like to wear jewellery. She is also wearing simple, natural looking make-up, which adheres to the same stereotype. Her hair is also made to look wet, as though she has just gotten out of the bath- we see water on her body further into the video, which emphasises this

Her body language as it goes into the chorus becomes more energetic as her desperation, expressed through the song, becomes more apparent- she is intertwining her hands, putting her hands on her head, looking down and crying. However, when it goes into the bridge she is giving direct address to the audience whilst crying, which emphasises her desperation and a plea to “take [her] home”.

Jess Glynn- Take Me Home

The mise on scene is very bare and clean, with white walls and plain wooden floor- it is very simple and helps emphasise the artist sat in the chair/ stood up.

There is a pink backdrop that appears in a few crosscuts throughout the video, which corresponds to the same pink tones painted on her nails and the pink tones in her skin. This is inviting to the audience, due to the warm tones, as there are no harsh colours.

The title of the song is the first thing you see on the screen, and at the same time the lights slowly fade lighter- low key to high key. This is where the audience establishes the artist sat in a chair. This technique is also used when it crosscuts to her in front of the pink backdrop, it fades from low key to high key.

There are a sequence of mid-shots and close-ups with a few long shots of the artist sat in the chair at the beginning. There is no diegetic sound, but almost all of the song is lip singed throughout the video by the artist.

Long shot Mid Shot Close-up/high angle

There are only 3 shot types used in the video- long shot, mid-shot and close-up/high angle. They are very simple but effective shots as they help the audience establish what is going on in the video and who the person is. The shallow depth of field helps the audience focus on just her as she is the one ‘telling the story’.

The use of side lighting as she is stood in the door way adds atmosphere and creates a low key shot. There is a contrast with the warmth of the pinks in the background and the coldness of the blues in the foreground, which is a binary opposite- Pink represents compassion, which is what the artist is trying find through the non-diegetic sound-

“Came to you with a broken faith,

Gave me more than a hand to hold”

The blue tones represents reliability and honestly, also expressed through the non-diegetic sound-

“Would you take the wheel?

If I lose control?

If I'm lying here

Will you take me home?”
