Introduction to the Water Cycle
• All humans and animals need water to survive.
• The earth recycles water using the water cycle.
• The water cycle is powered by the sun.

Precipitation
• As the water vapor cools, the droplets get larger, until eventually they fall from the sky.
• When the water falls from the sky it is called precipitation.
• There are different forms of precipitation. They are rain, snow, hail and sleet.

Rain
• Rain is the liquid form of precipitation.
• Fun Fact: Rain drops are often shown as teardrop shape but in reality they are much more spherical.

Snow
• Snow is a form of precipitation that falls in the form of ice particles.
• Snow particles form when cloud droplets cool.
• The snow particles are flat and thin.
• Fun Fact: All snow flakes are different.

Sleet and Hail
• Sleet is a form of precipitation that is a mixture of snow and rain.
• Hail consists of lumps of ice.
• Hail forms when the cloud droplets freeze on contact with the cold air.

Evaporation
• The sun warms standing water such as puddles, ponds, lakes and oceans.
• As the water is warmed, the water changes from a liquid to a water vapor.
• This process is called evaporation

Condensation
• As the water vapor rises, it hits cooler air, collects and forms clouds.
• This process is called condensation.
• Fun Fact: Condensation also fogs up your eyeglasses and a cold glass on a warm day.

Transpiration
• Transpiration is evaporation off plants.
• Water is evaporated from little holes in the plants leaves.
• This is part of the water cycle and also cools the plants.
