Andrew Goodwins conventions
How we have conformed
Firstly we lip synched which is typically what you do when you are creating a music video. I have compared to a similar artists Taylor swift who also lip synchs when she creates her videos.
We have conformed to Goodwin's conventions as we have close ups as demonstrated below. We decided to conform as we wanted the characters emotions and lip synching to be clear and portray the correct images.
“The demand for a record label will include the need for lots of close ups of the artist and the artist may develop motifs that recur across their work”
How we have conformedWe conformed to the genre of the music video which is being alone and being upset either about a past relationship or the past. In our case it is the past however as shown by Taylor Swift the same principles can be applied when looking at a relationship. We conformed to real life
conventions of media products by giving off a loneliness as shown in Taylor Swifts video and our video. But we also conformed to Goodwin's convention of demonstrating genre characteristics (alone, depressed) and also relating the visuals and the lyrics.
How we conformed
We have conformed by showing scenes of a young girl crying, being upset and showing her emotion like a typical girl. This is to capture the audience of young girls who can relate because they are growing up experiencing various new things and will get upset more easily.
How we have challenegedWe have challenged the conventions of our genre in the way we haven’t used a basis of a relationship breakup. Our video is about getting over the past whereas Taylor Swift has developed a video about a relationship hoping for the future. It may be an assumption that when a girl is sad and moping around it is because of a boy. However our character is actually homosexual therefore challenging this convention. This also challenged Goodwin's convention of “There is frequently reference to notion of looking and particularly voyeuristic treatment of the female body” as there is none of this in our music video. It is a woman talking about her past and not about anybody else or any type of sexual/emotional relationship inperticular.
