GLOCO14 Presentation
My online identity was built around the below identity statement;
My desired outcome is to create a co-creative knowledge network that focuses on the way in
which storytelling is used as a sharing tool through the medium of travel blogging.
The ultimate goal of my co-creative knowledge network is to create my own successful travel
blogging community.
Through this community individuals are able to share and discuss their own travel
experiences with other travel minded community members.
The community will focus on generating discussion between members; this generation of
discussion will set this community apart from other blogging sites.
STRAGETY:
To establish my co-creative network I focused to 2 main strategies,
- Generate content
- Establish an online presence
Google + was chosen as my main platform for my co-creating network due to its aesthetic
look, ease of content delivery, its sharing capabilities and its reach of over 540 million active
monthly users world-wide.
Content was generated in the form of short, informative blogs of my own and the sharing of
photos and travel tips and advice.
My online presence was achieved by identifying already existing, strong and successful
networks and joining and engaging with them.
As well as Google +, Twitter was identified as the best platform to gather followers and
direct content to my Google + co-creative knowledge network.
On Twitter identifying networks with a strong online presence was achieved by searching
hashtags that had an association with travel which were then mapped to determine trend
and use over the network.
Hashtags used consisted of #travel; #travelblogging; #adventuretravel; #traveltips;
#traveladvise
#travel
Through this mapping, networks were able to be identified that had a strong following over
several areas of the hashtags being searched.
Some of the main networks identified were;
These Twitter uses were then followed and engagemed with in the form of retweeting
content or quoting content with the addition of the hashtag #travelsbyjac from the Twitter
account of @tweetsbyjac
This allowed my co-creative knowledge network to be linked to these stronger, established
networks.
This engagement strategy on Twitter was successful in generating a strong following to my
own Twitter account.
Prior to any engagement with these networks there was no-one following my Twitter account
of @tweetsbyjac after engagement and consisting tweeting followers are currently sitting at
67
On Google + communities that generated high followers and produced consistent
content were targeted.
Once identified, these communities were then followed and
engaged with in the form of sharing my own blogs and photos throughout their networks.
Sharing content with these
communities resulted in my posts being shared and re posted by other users within the
community and users of these communities adding me to their networks
Once a network of followers was met and enough content produced on the
Travelbyjac Google + community callouts were sent.
The callouts were shared via Twitter and Google +
The callout on Twitter consisted of the below and included a link to the Google +
Travelsbyjac community page.
The Google + callout consisted of the below;
This was shared with the public, my followers and people and communities I was
following.
The callout was sent out early morning, midday and late evening over the series of a
few days to capture the largest amount of users and readers.
The callouts on Twitter generated more followers to my Twitter account which helped
to build my online following but was not the main aim of the callout.
The callout to Google + was successful in generating followers of my co-creative
knowledge network community.
There has been no engagement as yet within my co-creative knowledge
network.
RECOMMENDATIONS AND INSIGHTS:
Establishing a co-creative knowledge network with almost no online presence proved
difficult, I would recommend trying to develop and maintain a strong presence prior to
pushing your co-creative knowledge network.
Having content to link users too once the network is ready to go live is vital in gaining
followers and user participation
The main negative insight that I have with my co-creative knowledge network is the
name I chose to go by Travelsbyjac
Due to the sharing nature that I wish my co-creative network to have I feel a name
that is less identifiable to a person will allow for a more successful and active network.
