Famous Wildlife Sanctuaries
Corbett National Park
• Founded in 1936.
• The oldest national park in India.
• Named after the famous hunter turned conservationist Jim Corbett.
• Nearest city : 86km from Nainital 297km from Delhi
• Area : 350sq km core
• When to go : October to June
• Nearest airport : Phoolbagh, Pantnagar Delhi
• Access
• By Rail : Ramnagar
• By Road : Dhikala is 300 km from Delhi,
• Flora -110 species of trees, 51 species of shrubs, and over 33 species of bamboo and grass, sal trees, Shisham,khair ,bakli, chir, and bamboo trees.
• Fauna
• more than 50 species of mammals, 585 species of birds and 25 species of reptiles,
• elephants leopards, chital (spotted deer), sambar (Indian stag), chinkara (Indian gazelle), pada (hog deer) and muntjac (barking deer) abound in the Park.
• Safaris Elephant safaris can be arranged in Dhikala and Bijrani. Jeep safaris are available from outside the Park as well as from Dhikala.
Kanha National Park (Madhya
Pradesh)
One of the most well known tiger
reserves worldwide.
Declared a sanctuary way back in 1933
but got it's status as a National Park in
1955.

• Area : 1,005sq km.
• When to Visit : January to June,
• Access
• By air : Jabalpur (6 hours), which is also
the nearest airport
• By Rail : Jabalpur and Nagpur
• By Road : via Khatia or via Kisli. Jabalpur, Bilaspur and Raipur
• Flora & Fauna 70 species of trees, 22 species of large mammals 300 species of birds - jackal, wild boar, chital (spotted deer), sambar (Indian stag) porcupine, sloth bear, hyena, jungle cat, leopard, chausingha (four-horned antelope) and nilgai (blue bull)
Kaziranga National Park (Assam)
Status: World Heritage Site
Located on the banks of the mighty
Brahmaputra River in the far North
East of India, Assam.
• There are more than 1200 rhinos in the Park. Home to the unique one-horned rhinoceros, one of the most endangered of the five species found world-wide.
Apart from the rhinoceros, the other species of
wildlife to be found in Kaziranga include the
wild buffalo, swamp deer, tiger, wild boar,
Hoolock Gibbon, capped langur and hog deer
