DESCRIPTION
As the schools are closed for summer vacations, the visit to ITDAs this time focused more on the sanitation issues, I wanted to check whether toilets in the ITDAs are being maintained during off season or not. Also, based on the school strength, whether enough number of toilets are there for the students or not. The report of the same would be shared with district and state level functionaries, so that corrective action is taken before schools open in June'12.ITDA KR Puram has no KGBVs, the focus of the visit was solely on toilets here. The good part about this ITDA is that it has running water in all the schools I visited. I also came across an absurd toilet construction in one of the schools. Agenda of the visit
• Toilet Inspection Visit• To inform and discuss with PO ITDA, KR Puram
and PO SSA (RVM), West Godavari about Out of School Children issues & Education Fortnight
• To fill up the gaps between SSA (RVM) and Tribal Welfare Department
Main points observed
• Running water is available in all the schools visited• The toilet inspection format* - has minor discrepancies in
figures – e.g. number of toilets in the list prepared by ITDA Project
Management Resource Centre (PMRC) not matching with field observations of Tribal Coordinator
– Primary schools have not been covered in the format• Some of the toilets are not maintained or have bushes around
them preventing access• Door repair work is required in some of the schools• Sanitation Format (covering all schools) not yet sent from PO
ITDA to PO RVM office – deadline was 16th May* - SSA (RVM) sent a toilet inspection format on 3rd May to PO RVMs & PO ITDAs, the format is attached on the last slide
