information profession• Worldwide organization created to provide

librarians around the world• With a forum for exchanging ideas, and

promoting international• Cooperation, research and development in

HISTORY OF IFLA !

• IFLA was establish in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1927 at an international conference.

• IFLA was registered in the Netherlands in 1971 and is headquartered in The Royal Library in The Hague.

• IFLA is an independent, international, non-governmental and non-profit organization.

• It is provides information specialists throughout the world with a forum for exchanging ideas and promoting international cooperation, research, and development in all fields of library activity and information service.

• UBC was the First core program of IFLA established in 1969

UNIVERSAL BIBLIOGRAPHIC CONTROL (UBC)

• Development of the international standard bibliographic description as an instrument for international communication of bibliographic information.• UBC emphasized on the improvement of

national bibliographies and at the international congress on national bibliographies.• IFLA concerned about the development of

bibliographic records in machine readable form and established UNIMARC

ALP program was launched in 1984 at IFLA conference in Nairobi, Kenya

MISSION :To further the library institution and library

information service in the developing countries of Africa and also Caribbean.

. .IMPORTANT ROLE . .To promote the established and development

of library and information services to general public.

ALP also act as catalyst within IFLA for the organization activities in the Third World countries.

To ensure that significant library and archive material, whether it published or unpublished in all format will be preserved in accessible form for as long as possible.

AIMS:To raise awareness to make sure information and

heritage professionals, governments and the public of the fundamental occupied by preservation in the management of an institution

Objective :• The preservation of library and archives

materials is essential to the survival and development of cultures and scholarship.

• The national and international interdependency exists in the preservation of the library materials.

• National strategy should be guided by the principle that each country must accept responsibility for the preservation of its own imprints and for the preservation of other library and archive materials of its own civilization and culture.
