An Introduction to Earth

Earth, the planet on which welive was formed about 4.5billion years ago. It is fifthlargest in the solar system andfirst largest in the innerplanets of the solar system. Ithas the 3rd position from thesun and 6th position fromouter planets. It is known asthe unique planet becauseit is the only planet in theuniverse which is known tohave life. 3

RotationEarth has an imaginary line on whichit rotates, known as Axis. Earth’sorbit is slanting which makes unequaldays and nights on earth. When theearth rotates on its axis, it is calledRotation. Rotation causes days andnights on earth. Earth takes 24 hoursto complete one rotation. Earth takesrotation from west to east. Earth hasthe speed of 30 km of rotation onequator while on poles it has 0 km.Earth completes one rotation in 23hours, 56 minutes and 4.1 seconds. 5

RevolutionEarth has an imaginary line onwhich it goes around the sun,known as Orbit. Earth’s orbit isoval which brings the earth nearthe sun and far from the sun. whenthe earth goes around the sun, it iscalled Revolution. Revolutioncauses changes in the seasons onthe earth. Earth takes 365 days, 5hours, 48 minutes and 56 seconds(3651/4 days) to complete onerevolution. Revolution also runsfrom west to east. 6
