Objective

Page 4: integers maths ppt

To add and subtract

integers on a number

line.

Prerequisite

knowledge

Page 6: integers maths ppt

1) The collection of numbers with whole numbers

which is written as …,-3,-2,-1,0,1,2,3,… are called

integers. 2)The numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,… are

positive integers.

3) The numbers-1,-2,-3,-4,-5,-6,… are negative

integers.

4) Positive integers are marked on right hand side of

the number line and negative integers are marked on

left hand side of the number line.

Procedure

Page 15: integers maths ppt

1) Take a pink graph paper and cut a strip of 10 squares from it. Start writing positive integers (including 0) from left to right on the squares .

2) Take a green graph paper and again cut a strip of 10 squares from it. Start writing negative integers from right to left on the squares.

3) Place a sheet on a table and draw a long line. Mark a point in the middle of the line and to the right side of that point, paste the pink graph strip of positive integers and to the left side, paste the green graph strip of negative integers. Make sure that both the strips are attached to each other.

4) If we wish to add a number, we will move to the right side and if we wish to subtract a number, we will move to the left side. A) To show 2 more than 3 Since we want to add, we will move to the right side. In the given example, we wish to add 2 to3. So, place the marker on 3 and move 2 steps to the right. The marker will be on 5.

b) To show 4 less than 5 Since we want to subtract, we will move to the left side. In the given example, we wish to subtract 4 from 5. So, place the marker on 5 and move 4 steps to the left. The marker will be on 1. c) To show 3 more than -5 Since we want to add, we will move to the right side. In the given example, we wish to add 3 to -5. So, place the marker on -5 and move 3 steps to the right. The marker will be on -2.

Observation

Page 18: integers maths ppt

If we want to add integers, we

will move to right side on

number line and if we want to

subtract integers, we will move

to the left side on number line.

Result

Page 20: integers maths ppt

Through this activity, students

will learn to add or subtract the

integers on number line.
