1. By The Grade 2 Students At Sunnybrae Public School 2. There are 427 students at our school. There are students in junior kindergarten all the way up to grade 8 in our school (ages 3 to 13). There are 34 teachers at Sunnybrae. There is a principal and a vice principal here. 3. School yard Our school The primary playground 4. Our gym Our playground 5. We are called Bulldogs. We have climbers out on our playground. Some of our school activities are: Jump Rope for Heart, Track and Field, Olympic Day, Crazy Hat and Hair days, Pajama Days and more! We have: Basketball, Volleyball, Flag Football, Skipping, Chess, Math and Robotics Teams 6. We do the Terry Fox Run We do cross country running. We do track and field, 7. This is a map of Canada. We live in Ontario. We live one hour north of Toronto. 8. Innisfil is on the shores of Lake Simcoe. It is the outlined area. It is made up of smaller communities like Stroud, Alcona, Cookstown etc. We live in what is called cottage country. Many people come here to enjoy Lake Simcoe. 9. Our community is a growing community. There are lots of new houses being built here. Many people from Toronto move here and drive, or take the GO train, to work each day. The population is 35 000 people who are spread out over a large area. 10. Here is a picture of a GO train arriving in Toronto. You can see the CN tower. 11. We have many farms in our community. There is an egg farm near our school. 12. Some farms are animal farms. There are cows and chickens. We have farms for horseback riding too. 13. We have farms for growing crops too. In the summer time we like to eat fresh corn on the cob There are places where you can go and pick your own strawberries too. We have an apple orchard near our school. 14. The animals that live here are: Raccoons Deer Coyotes Rabbits 15. Many plants grow here. We have: maple trees, birch trees, Christmas trees, apple trees, corn, rose bushes, lots of flowers, dandelions (weeds). Some people have vegetable gardens. Some people have flower gardens. One student in our class has a farm where they grow potatoes. 16. Most people live in houses made of bricks. Some have homes with siding on them. Some people live in new houses. We mostly live in bigger houses with big backyards. We do not have apartment buildings in our community. There are some retirement homes. Some people live on farms. 17. Many people have pools in their backyards. 18. Many people have swing sets and slides in their backyards. Some people have ice rinks in their yards in the winter. 19. Our community is a developing community. We dont have a lot of stores. Just grocery stores and a few other shops. We have a police station, fire stations and libraries. Often we go to Barrie, which is a larger city right beside us, to get things. 20. A local marina. One of our Churches. 21. In Innisfil, fall is in the months of September, October, and November. The average temperature is 9 C. Sometimes it snows in November and is cold. It is rainy and windy too. In the fall, we like to make piles of leaves and jump in the leaves and then do it again. We also play leaf fights. 22. The weather in fall is cool. The temperature is usually less than 10 C. We usually wear a coat, sweater, and jeans. Sometimes it snows in November and is cold so we need to wear a winter coat, hat, and mittens. It is rainy and windy too so we need to have rain boots and a rain jacket. 23. Winter is in the months of December, January, and February in Innisfil. The weather is cold. We usually have snow. The snow in a month is as deep as 60 cm or sometimes 80 cm. We sometimes have snowstorms and school is cancelled because the roads are icy. I wear a winter coat, snow pants, hat, and winter boots to stay warm. The temperature is usually -20 C to 0 C. There are fun things to do outside in winter like snowmobiling, sledding, ice fishing, and tubing. You need to dress warm because it is so cold! Tubing at Snow Valley 25. Our principal an Olympic mascot 26. Spring in Innisfil is in the months March, April, and May. The weather is sunny but mostly rainy. The average temperature is about 5 to 10 C. It rains a lot in the spring so it can get messy. The snow melts and the flowers start to come out. 27. The weather in Innisfil in spring is sometimes rainy, cold, or warm. In the spring, you would wear pants, coat, shoes, and a ball cap on cool days. The temperature is usually about 5 to 10 C. We wear rain clothes, like rain coats, splash pants, and rain boots on rainy days. 28. Our principal skipping 29. Summer is in the months of June, July, and August in Innisfil. The temperature in summer is usually 20 C or 29 C. It is hot and sunny. We wear short-sleeve shirts and shorts. We eat lots of fruit. We eat watermelon. We also go to the beach and play in the water. We play baseball and soccer outside. 30. In summer it is usually 20 C to 30 C. It is hot and sunny. I wear a cap to keep the sun out my eyes. I wear shorts because when I put on pants in summer I am really hot! I wear a basketball jersey, and sandals. I sometimes play soccer outdoors and wear a t-shirt and running shoes. I wear a bathing suit because I like to swim at the lake a lot to keep cool. 31. Sledding is really fun in Innisfil in winter. Sledding is an awesome thing to do. If you go down a huge hill you might even flip down the hill! You need a sled and warm clothes and a big hill to go sledding. 32. Swimming is a popular sport in Innisfil. You do it by moving your arms and legs. The only thing you need is a bathing suit and goggles. In summer it is hot so we can swim in Lake Simcoe. 33. Ball hockey is a popular sport in Innisfil. The object of the game is to get the ball in the net. You need to play with 5-10 people in teams. You can play in spring, summer, or fall. You can play in your driveway. Ice hockey is popular in the winter. You need skates and equipment and you usually play at a rink. 34. Baseball is a fun sport in Innisfil. Baseball is a game where somebody throws a ball and another person hits it with a bat then tries to run around the bases before the other team catches it and gets you out. I play it in the summer. 35. Soccer is a popular sport in Innisfil. You play it by kicking a ball into the other teams net. You cannot use your hands. The only tools you need are shin pads, cleats, a soccer ball, and nets. We play soccer in the summer. 36. The fishing derby is a popular thing to do in Innisfil. Fishing is a sport where you go on to a rock by a lake and fish. You need a fishing rod, hooks, tacklebox, worms, and a fishing license. It is fun to do in the summer. 37. We usually eat breakfast around 8:00 am in the morning. We usually eat bananas, toast, eggs, cereal, and yogurt. We get bananas from a different country because it is not hot enough to grow them here. We can grow other fruit like apples or grapes here. We also can get eggs locally and buy or make bread too. 38. Many Canadian moms and dads like to start the day off with coffee from Tim Hortons. Tim Horton was a Canadian hockey player. Many students like to each tim bits for a treat 39. Lunch is a meal we eat between 1:00 and 3:00 pm. My mom makes lunch when I am at home. Sometimes I eat grilled cheese sandwiches or hamburgers or hot dogs. At school we eat a healthy snack like an apple or milk. Apples are grown locally and we have dairy farms in Ontario. 40. For dinner people have things like steak, pasta, or corn. We usually eat meat, a grain, and vegetables. We usually eat dinner around 6:00 pm at night. My mom or dad usually cooks dinner. You can buy corn grown in Innisfil. I love corn on the cob with butter!
