Preventing Tobacco Use Among students and
Young Adults
IntroductionJabir alsarhan secondary school in Jordan participated in a virtual exchange program hosted by Global Nomads Group. As part of the program, our school collaborated with humanities ااا school to develop solutions to the challenges our communities face.We decided to address the problem with the name Preventing Tobacco Use Among students and Young Adults .
Today’s teens and young adults problems have many shows on medias , and one of them is preventing young adults from using tobacco But many of the same media that warn of the dangers of tobacco use also carry messages that smoking is cool—edgy—adult. That’s one reason, nearly 9 out of 10 smokers start smoking by age 18, and 99% start by age 26. On any given day, thousands youth and young adults who have been occasional smokers will become regular smokers. And at least a third of these replacement smokers will die early from smoking. The percentage of youth who smoke went down every year between 1997 and 2015.But since then, the decrease in teen smoking has slowed and the use of some forms of tobacco by youth has leveled out. Today, one out of four high school seniors and one out of three young adults under age 26 are smokers. Resource: www.cdc.gov/tobacco
The problem
Many teens and young adults don’t realize how addictive nicotine is.
They are also more willing to take risks, even with their health . Young people are more vulnerable and more influenced by marketing than adults which make Cigarette companies look to young people as replacement smokers. They use a variety of marketing strategies to encourage new consumers to try their products, and to continue using them. When smoking is portrayed as a social norm among others who are seen as cool, sophisticated, rebellious, or fun-loving, teens often respond by copying the behavior and trying cigarettes themselves. If their friends smoke, or their siblings smoke, they are even more likely to smoke themselves.

Challenges we faced
Because it is the first time in our school and village to do such project we do not faced much challenges cause people already know the dangers of tobacco, but they do not know details so we tried to give it to them and make it reach to the vast majority of people . Grocery shops refused to give us pictures because they do sell tobacco .
How do we hope to continue this work in the future?
Family and Community Involvement by expanding this project and convert it to social program cooperating with our municipality here .Prohibit tobacco use at all school facilities and events at all timesEncourage and help students and staff to quit using tobacco .
Continuing on what we are doing now through this project .
Solutions
Involve parents and families in school efforts to prevent tobacco use Adopt a firm school policy of not accepting any funding, curricula or other materials from any tobacco company.
The best thing to do is keep kids from starting to use tobacco in the first place by talking about the dangers of tobacco use at an early age. Studies have found that talking to children as young as 5 or 6 years old and continuing the conversation until high school can have a profound effect on preventing tobacco use
conclusionIt is time for the world to face up to the fact that preventing as many children and youth as possible from starting to smoke cigarettes is feasible and worthwhile, both economically and in terms of improved health of the population. The school setting is a key system to impact youth tobacco use. Findings underscore the need to train school personnel to enforce school tobacco policy.
