A £15m project to create a Centre of Excellence for ICT in NW. (NWDA, ERDF, HEIF & Uni funding)

Provides a regional presence to encourage economic and social regeneration through knowledge and technology transfer

OverviewComputing Science

One of the leading research departments in the UK (RAE 5A) receiving substantial external funding for its research (£10m) from the UK research councils, TSB, the EC and industry. High Profile research projects include Internet and mobile computing with funding from major international companies. One particular project is Nemo which uses information systems to reduce “white knuckle syndrome”

Overview

Internationally recognised for its contribution to many fields of communications including broadcasting, multimedia technologies, mobile, wireless, satellite communications and navigational devices for ships, aircrafts, rockets and satellites. One particular area of excellence is mobile application development and the department has very close relations with Nokia, Sony Ericsson, O2 and Vodaphone.
