Polythene

Polythene pollutes not only air but water as well. In recent years, it has posted serious threats to marine life.

The land gets littered by polythene bags. Garbage presents an ugly and unhygienic

scene.

AIM :- To reduce the use of polythene and

make people aware of the evils of polythene bags.

It was observed that…

Polythene bags are the true menace to our ecosystem and our waste diversion goals. Barely recyclable, almost 428 polythene bags are used per 10 second in a state. Once discarded, they either enter our landfill and become a carbon sink or enter into the marine life.

Cleaning Up By joining hands with local people, an

area was cleaned which really made us aware of our “throw away culture”.

It was taken to the next step by spreading awareness in public places.

Spreading awareness didn’t end with public. In schools and neighbourhood paper bags were distributed and the school children were informed about the evils of polythene.

CONVINCING PEOPLE…..

ALTERNATIVES:

Less than 30 micron polythene bags are easily available at a cheaper rate.

More than 40 micron polythene bags should be used which are easy to recycle.

Paper can be used for wrapping a gift.

Paper creativity… Paper and Paper Mache (which is strong

mixture of glue , paper an water)can be used in making many creative things.

CONCLUSION:-

Reducing the use of polythene will automatically decrease the air pollution. If polythene is burnt, it increases carbon emission in the air which may lead to increase in global warming.
