A Simple Idea for Evaluation

Thought Behind This Idea

We talk of border-less world in relation to Global Trade. This means uniformity in trade scenario

But as far as Education is concerned, there remains a huge disparity in accessing quality education across the globe.

A kindergarten kid in California (read as a affluent community) is experiencing the best of education where as a poor kid in Koraput district of Orissa in India is having no access to basic knowledge.

There starts the inequality which can never be bridged.

A Sincere Attempt to Reduce the Initial Gap

Idea is to make arrangements so that with limited resources the poor village kids can get access to best of education using web and some basic mobile devices.

A California kid reads the kindergarten stuffs in English with proper phonetics. At the same time a poor kid in Koraput district of Orissa, India learns the same concepts over the web.

The notebook will have downloaded videos to show them over projector.

This will reduce the disparity on the skill levels in both the kids.

Gyan Prakash- the NGO

“Gyan Prakash”, the NGO will be involved in attracting the poor kids of Orissa’s backward villages towards education in a playful way.

We will be using the contents of web sites like www.ixl.com, www.netflix.com , www.youtube.com &

www.khanacademy.org for teaching and entertaining the kids.

Contd….

Using tablets/note book & mobile projectors, the local senior boys will run the classes.

Pilot Project: 3 villages of 3 different districts of Orissa.

Challenge is to attract these kids to these sessions as they are the helping hands to their parents for running the show.

Our Approach

The smart senior student who doubles as the teacher will visit the locality where most of these poor families reside with a tablet/note book, a mobile projector and a white bed sheet.

Initial few days, they will be shown moral stories and short movies. Once coming to these sessions become a habit, slowly the student-teacher starts showing the educational videos.

Teaching in fun way is the key. Slowly the basic concepts will be imparted to them. Assessment will also be done. The idea is not to study to pass exams, rather to acquire knowledge. The electronic devices will run on battery during the class time.

For a Pilot Run Of The Initiative

Pilot Project: State of Orissa, India Target Audience: 3 villages from 3 districts of the state. Cost Involved: (per village) A tablet - $400 A Mobile Projector $350 A Notebook Computer $300 Teacher Salary: 1200$ for a whole year ------------------------------ Total $ 2250 (Yearly expenditure per village) -------------------------------- Grand Total: 3X$2250=$6750 Equivalent Indian Rupees: 3,37,500 INR (approx)

Self Sustaining Model

After initial investment to the of $6750, the operational cost per annum will be to the tune of $ 3600 for these 3 villages.

Once, the initiative gains momentum, it will start opening schools for economically not so backward students.

Money collected from them will be used to meet the operational cost of the initiatives.

Along with that donation collected locally will be a big help.

We will advocate government-private participation in the field of education.
