The towers were designed by Argentine American architect, Csar Pelli. The construction of the superstructure started on 1 March 1993 and officially finished after 7 years of construction on 1 August 1999. Standing in 88 floors, the Petronas Twin Towers were the tallest building in the world for 6 years (1998-2004), not until Taipei 101 was completed in 2004. 7. Willis Tower and the World Trade Centre towers were each constructed with 110 floors 22 more than the 88 floors of the Petronas Twin Towers. Willis Towers antennas is taller than the Petronas Twin Towers, however, in accordance with CTBUH regulations and guidelines, the antennas of Willis Tower were not counted as part of its architectural construction plan. The spires on the Petronas Twin Towers are included in the height since they are not antenna. Therefore, the Petronas Twin Towers are officially the tallest building in the world during that time. 8. The skybridge of the Petronas Twin Towers, also acts as a safety device, so that in the event of a fire or other emergency in one tower, people can evacuate by crossing the skybridge to the other tower. The skybridge proved to be useful for an emergency event. For example, such as the day when the 9/11 attacks destroyed the twin towers of the World Trade Centre in New York City. 9.
