How to create effective Power Point Presentations

The Power Point Presentation
• A complement to the oral presentation, not the
presentation itself.
• Function: illustrate and emphasize the main
points of the presentation.
Step 1: Planning and writing
• Short texts.
• Plan in advance the content of your
presentation.
• Use subtitles for each different topic.

• Show one point at a time.
• Use key words.
• Check grammar.
Step 2: Background
• Use contrasting colors.
• Dark text with light background is recommended.
• Keep the same background for every slide.
• Avoid using an image as background.
Step 3: Font
• Use standard fonts (Times New Roman, Arial,
etc.).
• Font 24 or larger.
• Different fonts sizes show hierarchy.
Step 4: Additional Information
• Images can be used, but do not overdo it.
• Add tables and graphics when possible.
• Do not add unnecessary animation.
• Do not use transition for the slides.

• What do they know?
• What do you need to tell them?
• What do they expect?

• Write notes to yourself.
• Avoid reading directly from the slides.
• Create a conclusion slide.

• Maintain eye contact with the audience.
