What is a screencast?It is a digital recording of your computer screen.

Screencasts are important in online teaching because it is a way of replacing traditional classroom lectures.

This guide will lead you through how to create and export a screencast using QuickTime Player.

Finder

Finder is located in the lower left corner of your Mac screen click on the icon to get to the Finder screen.

In the Finder window, look to the side menu, find

Applications and click on it.

QuickTime Player

Look for the

QuickTime Player app and click on it.

When you click on the QuickTime Player app it will look like your screen has not change.However, if you look at the menu bar at the top of your computer screen, you will see that QuickTime Player is open.

To start your screencast, click on File

Screen Recording

This drop screen will appear.

Click on

New Screen Recording

To start your screencast.

This rectangle will appear on your screen.

If you need to add a microphone to your screencast click on the white down arrow.

Changing the microphone

This drop screen will appear.

Click on Built-in input internal microphone.Your microphone is now connected to your screencast.

Click on the red and white circle to start your screencast.

Now your ready to record.

After you click on the record button, this rectangle will appear on your screen.

If you want a full screen recording , just click on

Click to record the full screen.

Or if you only want to record a portion of your screen, click

on Drag to record part of the screen and drag it to the part of the screen you want to record.

After you choose the part of the screen you want to record (the screen will be highlighted to show the portion that will be recorded) The button Start Recording will appear. Click on it to start recording.

Stop Recording

Click on the grey box to stop your recording.

Exporting the screencast

The screencast now needs to be exported in order to edit it or save it.

Go to the top menu bar and click on File

Click on Export To

Choose to export to

iMovie

Click on Share

Saving the screencast.After you export QuickTime Player will allow you to save the screen cast.

1. Type in the name of your screencast.

2. Choose where you’d like to save the screencast.

3. Click

Save

Your screen cast is now saved.
