Narrative

EDN 303

Technology and the use of technology in today’s classrooms is likely the most important part of student’s education as they enter our digital world as adults. Throughout time technology has continued to advance. There are many examples of this such as the horse and buggy being replaced by the automobile or encyclopedias being replaced by the internet. As technology continues to advance older technologies, such as Atari video games, have fallen to the wayside.

I have chosen some laboratory equipment for my budget worksheet for several reasons. The dual scope microscopes will allow two students to use the same equipment thereby only one scope would be needed for two students. In today’s tough budget crisis that schools are going through this would be logical as it provides advanced equipment that can be shared. I also chose to purchase pre-made microscope slides to help reduce the costs of purchasing plant and animal tissues and these same slides can be used year after year thus reducing laboratory costs while still providing students with excellent condition slides. I also chose to purchase the microscope camera so that I, as an instructor, can point out important parts of the slides that the students will need to focus on at their own lab tables.

Teachers must stay up to date and knowledgeable about today’s technology advances so that our schools and classrooms remain technologically sound and for the proper education of the students. Student’s in today’s world have grown up with technology and continue to reach higher in their learning by using this technology. It is not unusual that some students may be more technologically advanced than the teacher. I was witness to one example in a computer class at Brunswick Community College when the instructor would often reach out to a certain student to help the class reach our project goals
