Composition Assignment Hong Kong Park

Hong Kong ParkSo what can I see there?

An important part of any photo shoot is to plan out exactly what you are trying to achieve before you depart in order to use your time wisely. Great photographic opportunities can happen by chance, but you do not just want to be walking around aimlessly for an hour!

Review the park website and decide the key attractions that you would like to photograph.www.lcsd.gov.hk/en/parks/hkp/

Composition • You will have an hour to explore Hong Kong Park.

Try and practice using as many of the composition guidelines as you can in that time.

Practice ManualRemember this is your opportunity to really play with the manual settings of your camera.

• Aperture – Depth of Field• Shutter Speed• ISO

Blogging – Part 1• Create a post displaying the most successful images from

your first shoot.• Select up to 20 images and put these into a gallery (see

Picasa and Quick Gallery PPT) to do this.• Explain why you have chosen these as your best shots,

including technical analysis and an explanation of how these have successfully responded to the photographers work.

• Identification of how to refine these in a technical and personal way that links to your idea.

Top Tip: Don’t forget to explain why you have chosen these images as your best shots. Use the visual elements and rules of composition as well as the ‘Deconstructing the Photograph’ guidelines to make your explanation meaningful….

Blogging - Part 2• Create a post showing how you have developed and refined

your best shots. For this exercise choose 3 or 4 of your favourite shots. This could involve simple refinement of shots to adjust exposure or more extensive editing depending on your theme, ideas and inspiration.

• Include:• Screenshots to clearly outline the digital editing process in

Lightroom or Photoshop;• Brief explanation of the editing process (text to explain the

images);• Opinions on what went well and what still could be

improved...Top Tip: Avoid putting in screenshots of the entire screen. Try to isolate and display what is important, such as a layers palette or a part of the photo you have adjusted along with the relevant tool in use.

Blogging - Part 3• A post to show the final outcomes from your first shoot.

Include• Large images of your final outcomes for this phase• Analysis on the success of this work and what could still be

improved...

Top Tip: This is where you are really showing off your best work so present large images to show off the detail. Ensure you include analysis of these images. And finally a ‘before’ and ‘after’ helps to clarify the editing process you went through if a lot of post processing has taken place….
