What have you learned about earthquakes and earthquake prediction Since the start of this project, I have leaned some things

about earthquake prediction, taking into consideration that I knew nothing before. First off, I learned that surrounding earthquakes effect nearby areas in when their next earthquake may occur. Second, The magnitude of an earthquake plays an important role in earthquake prediction because there are patterns in the levels of magnitude in each earthquake. Lastly, I learned how one earthquake can effect the rest of the world in context of economy and how we live as an community.

What factors influence earthquake prediction A factor in determining earthquake is

location. If a country is located on a plate boundary it has a better chance of an earthquake, every time the plates touch, vibrations are caused in the earth. This also means the closer the location is to the plate boundary, the greater strength of the earthquake.

Where on earth do the greatest earthquakes occur? Some of the worlds greatest earthquakes

occur on the fault lines. The fault lines are the source of the earthquakes which means they are strongest at the core, the fault lines. As the vibrations occur in the earth, they become weaker and weaker as they move outward.

Top 10 locations 1. Chile- Chile has been a major earthquake hotspot in the past and is

located close to the boundary lines 2.Japan- Japan is a major spot for earthquakes, but up until recently, they

have been mostly small 3.California.- California is another major hotspot like Japan, California is

also located close to a boundary line 4.-China- China, is a very active earthquake area, although not as active

as some others, it is still more active than most 5-Turkey- Turkey has been known to have small earthquakes very often,

but once in every 50-100 years, they have a large earthquake 6- Italy- Italy is very similar to Turkey earthquake wise, they have large

earthquakes every so often 7-Africa- Having the rift in the middle of Africa, plays a large role in why

Africa is due for an earthquake 8-AustraliaAustralia mostly sees only small quakes, although Newcastle,

its sixth largest city, did see a moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 in 1968

9-Texas- Being close to south America, many major earthquakes have occurred recently

10-Alaska- Alaska has had many very large earthquakes, but none recently, Alaska is due for an earthquake
