Produced in 2011 as an action thriller film.

Empire and Grazia both rated it a 4 star
The Guardian said it was “Too boring to be a proper thriller” and gave it a 2 star rating
Plot summary’A sixteen-year-old girl who was raised by her
father to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent and her operatives.’ – IMDB
During the opening we witnessed Hanna and her father in the Antarctic, training and hunting for survival. Later on we realize the father is teaching Hanna to defend herself due to an unknown event.
Narrative conventionsIt followed thriller conventions as it did not give
much away.
There was training for fighting which infers that there may be fighting/crime.
The gun shots also infer that there has/will be crime.
We can tell revenge is imminent due to the father telling Hanna that they “won’t stop till you’re dead”
EditingParallel editing shows a connection between the
two locations and suggests there will be rivalry.
The slow paced editing during the conversations is then juxtaposed during Hanna’s training when it becomes fast paced. This creates a sense of calm and serenity.
Slow motion was used to highlight key events in her training as it will be important for the rest of the narrative
SoundVoice overs were used a lot to indicate that she
is trying to remember her false German identity.
There are a lot of diegetic sounds such as the fire and gun shots. However this is also contrasted by non-diegetic sounds when she's looking at photos and camera jump zooms to the sound of gun shots in another scene. This indicated that the person in the photo has been shot or is going to be.
Exaggerated gun shots show they are going to be a key feature later on and indicate crime.
Camera workThe wide shot at the beginning shows the
audience how alone and abandoned they are. It surprises us when we then see the aero plane fly over as it is not expected in that area. It also hints to us that they are being hunted.
A close up is used when she pulls the arrow out of the deer as it shows she has no attachment to things are is ruthless. It links to her training or future mission as she should be concentrating on the task and not the people dying.
Mise en sceneThey were wearing fur outfits which suggests
they are self sufficient and living in the past. It also gives a sense of isolation as they are different to others
There was a massive contrast in lighting as the outside was bright natural and snowy where as inside it is dark and the only light is fire.
Fairy tale?It has strong connotations of snow white due to
the deer, snow, evil woman out to kill her and her farther training her in life.
She was also reading a fairy tale.
The wolves indicate Little red riding hood but turned over as they nice friendly.
