October  3,  2013 Dear  Parents: Thanks   to   all   of   you  who   came  out   to   our   grade   four   and   five     iPad   information  meeting.  We  appreciate  your  time.  We  understand  many  parents  had  other  commitments  and  were  unable  to  attend.  Here  is  a  summary  of  the  important  details  from  the  meeting. Why  iPads? Adding   the   iPad   to   the  MacBooks   that   are   currently   available   for   use   by   our   fourth   and   fifth  graders  will  redefine  their  learning  experience  to  be  more  collaborative,  reflective,  and  inquiry-­‐based. iPads  and  Laptops  in  Grade  6? Will  the  fifth  graders  also  need  a   laptop  next  year  in  sixth  grade?  Yes.  They  will  continue  with  both  devices  into  the  secondary  school.  They  are  different  skill  sets  that  are  both  necessary  for  school. Since  last  year... The  biggest  action  we  have  taken  to  bring  the  1:1  iPad  program  to  grades  four  and  five  was  to  do   a   trial   last   spring   in   the   fourth   grade.   Students  became  more   involved   in   their   learning   as  they  were  allowed  to  make  choices  and  demonstrate  their  creativity  using  the  iPad. Order  deadline  of  October  18th,  not  October  11th It  appears  an  announcement  about  new  iPad  minis  may  be  coming  from  Apple  in  the  next  few  weeks,  so  we  would  like  to  ask  for  your  understanding  as  we  push  the  order  deadline  back  to  October  18th.  This  will  allow  us   to  hear   the  announcement   from  Apple  so   that  we  can  ensure  parents  get  the  most  value  from  their  money  as  they  purchase  an  iPad.  Our  hope  is  to  have  the  iPads  in  the  classrooms  in  early  November  as  students  begin  their  new  Units  of  Inquiry. Pricing  and  Ordering We  hope   to   send  you   the  order   form   for  your   iPad  mini   this  week.  The  current  prices   for   the  iPad  mini  that  we  have  are  610,500  KRW  for  an  iPad  mini  32GB  and  723,800  KRW  for  an  iPad  mini  64GB.  Those  prices  include  the  Apple  Care  Protection  Plan  which  covers  your  iPad  for  two  years  from  the  date  of  purchase  for  the  Apple  hardware.  It  also  provides  some  technical  support. What  if  we  already  own  an  iPad? The  order  form  also  has  a  section  for  parents  who  wish  to  send  their  child  to  school  with  an  iPad  that  they  currently  own.  The  student  cannot  share  the  iPad  with  a  parent  or  sibling  because  the  iPad   will   be   required   every   day   at   school-­‐   it   is   dedicated   to   school   learning.   Minimum  specifications   for   an  older-­‐model   iPad   are   listed  on   the  order   form   (32GB  or  64GB,   iPad  2  or  newer,  etc.)  The  device  must  be  approved  by  the  school  before  use.

iTunes  account All   families  will  be  required  to  have  an   iTunes  account.  We  recommend  an  account   in   the  U.S.  iTunes  store,  but  we  understand  that  some  parents  may  not  be  able  to  have  such  an  account  due  to  restrictions.   In   this  case,  parents  are  required   to  have  an   iTunes  account   in  another   iTunes  store.   If   you   need   help   setting   up   your   iTunes   account,   Mrs.   Robin   Montgomery   in   the  Technology   Department   will   be   able   to   assist   you.  We   will   make   appointments   available   for  parents  who  need  this  assistance. Parent  exploration  sessions We  will  be  conducting  a  series  of  iPad  exploratory  sessions  to  equip  parents  to  work  with  their  children   on   the   iPads.   Explore   ways   to   use   the   iPad   in   the   classroom,   basic   features,   and  managing  it  at  home.   Thank  you  for  the  support  you  show  of  your  child’s  education.  If  you  have  any  questions  about  the  iPad  program,  please  feel  free  to  contact  us.  We  hope  to  send  you  further  details  about  the  order  form  and  timing  of  parents  exploration  sessions  next  week. 바쁘신 와중에도 지난 4,5학년 iPad information meeting에 참석해 주신 부모님들께 감사드립니다. 다른 일정으로 인해 참석이 어려우셨던 부모님들도 많이 계셨을 것이라 생각됩니다. 다음은 지난 meeting에서 다루어진 중요한 사항들을 요악한 내용입니다. 왜 iPads인가? 4,5 학년 학생들이 현재 사용하고 있는 Macbook 에 iPad 를 함께 사용함으로써 학습을 통해 습득한 내용을 재정립하는데 보다 상호 협력적, 반영적 그리고 탐구영역에 기반이 되는 수단이 될 것입니다. 6학년에서 iPad와 Laptop을 모두 사용하는가? 5학년들이 내년에 6학년으로 올라갈 경우 laptop이 필요한가? 그렇습니다. 5학년 학생들은 중학교에 올라가서도 이어서 두 기기를 모두 사용하게 됩니다. 두 기기는 학습에 필요한 서로 다른 기능들을 가지고 있습니다. 작년 시범 수업 작년에 시행했던 4학년 학생들의 시범수업을 통해 4학년과 5학년 학생들의 1:1 iPad program 도입을 결정하게 되었습니다. 학생들은 iPad 를 활용하여 각자의 창의성을 표현하는데 선택의 다양성을 갖게 됨으로써 학습에 보다 적극적으로 참여할 수 있게 되었습니다. 주문마감 날짜 10월 11일에서 10월 18일로 변경 Apple로 부터 몇 주안에 새로운 iPad mini가 출시될 것이라는 정보를 받은 바 있어 정확한 공지를 확인 후 구매를 진행하기 위해 주문 마감일자를 10월 18일로 변경하게 되었습니다. 주문한 iPad를 새로운 탐구영역을 시작하는 11월 초에 학급에 배치하는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다. 가격과 주문 이번 주 안으로 iPad mini 주문 신청서가 안내될 예정입니다. 현재 확인된 가격으로는 iPad mini 32G는 610,500원 / 64G는 723,800원 입니다. 이 가격은 구입일로부터 2년 동안 하드웨어 수리 및 기술 지원을 받을 수 있는 Apple care protection 이 포함된 가격입니다. 이미 iPad를 가지고 있는 경우 주문신청서에는 현재 가지고 있는 iPad를 사용하길 원하는 부모님들을 위한 섹션이 포함되어 있습니다. 학생들이 iPad를 매일 수업시간에 필요로 하고 많은 시간을 할애하게 되므로 부모님 또는 형제들과 함께 사용하기 어려울 것입니다. 주문신청서에는 구제품 iPad일 경우 확인되어야 하는 최소 권장 사양 목록이 첨부되어 있으니 확인 부탁드립니다. (32GB 또는 64GB , iPad 2 또는 최신버전 등등) 현재 가지고 계신 iPad 사용을 결정하시기 전에 사양이 맞는 기기인지 반드시 학교와 확인해 주시기 바랍니다. iTunes account iPad를 사용하기 위해서는 iTunes 계정이 필요합니다. 미국 iTunes스토어 계정을 권장하지만 몇 몇 부모님들 께서는 제한되는 부분이 있어 계정 생성에 어려움이 있는 분들도 계실 것입니다. 이럴 경우에는 다른 iTunes스토어의 계정을 생성하셔야 합니다. iTunes 계정 생성에 도움이 필요하신 부모님들을 위해 약속시간을 잡아 Technology Department 의 Mrs.Robin Montgomery 선생님께서 도움을 드릴 것 입니다.
