IN 2013, MORE PEOPLE WILL ACCESS WEBSITES VIA MOBILE DEVICES THAN DESKTOPS...

Studies show that in 2013 more people will be accessing the web via mobile devices than pc’s however we’ll explore more of that shortly.

While one in seven searches occur on a mobile device, business owners would need to make their mobile site more compatible to those devices even if their regular website is performing well and is user friendly.

While desktop and laptop computer users tend to complete a multitude of tasks while accessing the computer, mobile and now tablet users tend to be more focused and are transaction oriented users.

Companies need to move from being “mobile friendly” to thinking “mobile first.”

Companies once designed their sites to be “mobile friendly” however the biggest challenge was figuring out how to cram a lot of content on a smaller area. Now, they are realizing that they should be designing with simplicity in mind for mobile device users.

BADEXAMPLES

Not only does the fast food chain’s Hardee’s mobile site not user friendly in terms of size and and simplicity, but it doesn’t take into consideration that a mobile device user seeking their nearest location may not be able to tell what their current zip code is. While Jeeps does have a simpler more eye catching design, they have failed to accurately size the fonts and Name My Ride simply says Name my R. Not Good.

GOOD/GREATEXAMPLES

From clear and concise text and action, to simplicity and video, these three companies have aced their mobile market user with their designs.

• 91 percent of adults keep their smartphones within arm’s reach.

• Even more important to entrepreneurs: 9 out of 10 mobile searches lead to action. More than half lead to sales.

While we have explored the evolution of marketing online from the traditional access to the web and now mobile access, I would recommend that you develop a simple site with call to actions to direct your potential clientele to a call to action. Including video, basic pricing, and appointment booking and a location would be a great asset for your mobile users. One could then be upsold upon an in person meeting.
