Bolo Grenade
The Bolo Grenade is the standard fragmentation grenade used by both the COG forces as well as the Locust Horde. The Bolo Grenade is substantially different from any other previous fragmentation grenade, both in damage as well as even throwing method. The grenade's structure consists of an explosive attached to a chain-like rope that is swung around and released when momentum is gained to throw it.
Boltok pistol
The Boltok pistol is the standard Locust sidearm. The Boltok is a high-caliber magnum revolver. It has half the capacity as the COG Snub Pistol and a much slower rate of fire, but the sheer damage per round it puts out makes it an effective weapon when used correctly.
Back to weapons
Boom Shot
The Boom Shot Rocket Launcher is a short to mid range weapon that discharges explosive projectiles through a large barrel. The weapon is only used by the Locust Boomers but can be picked up by the player. This weapon can easily splatter a COG soldier with one shot. But, the slow rate of fire causes the Boomer, who handles it, to be easily defeated by any COG soldier if they use cover to their advantage as the Boomers tend to shout the word "Boom" just before they fire the weapon.
Back to weapons
Gnasher Shotgun
The Gnasher Shotgun is a close range weapon that is intended for instantly killing enemies within 3 meters of a Gear. The Gnasher Shotgun is a powerful weapon if used in the right situation. It has an 8 round capacity and with more powerful rounds from perfect reloads, it can be devastating.
Back to weapons
Hammer of Dawn The Hammer of Dawn is a C.O.G. weapon, consists of two
separate elements: an orbital satellite equipped with an Imulsion-powered directed particle energy weapon and a hand-held laser designator to be carried by C.O.G. ground forces. Use of the Hammer requires that an orbital satellite first be aligned with the general area of operation, and that it have line of sight to the targeting unit (thus limiting most uses of the Hammer to the outdoors). Once a visual link between the targeting unit and satellite has been achieved, the user must point the hand-held unit's laser at the intended target, at which point the orbital satellite will lock onto the laser's point of termination and begin a sustained particle energy blast on the site.

Hammerburst
The Hammerburst is the standard Locust Horde firearm. It is standard armament for Drones, and is believed to be the C.O.G.'s Lancer Assault Rifle counterpart. This weapon, unlike the Lancer, fires in powerful bursts of six rounds.
Back to weapons
Lancer Assault Rifle
The Lancer Assault Rifle is the workhorse of the Coalition of Ordered Governments armed forces. It is the primary armament of Gears, and fires projectiles at medium range. This weapon is first used in Trial By Fire. The Lancer, unlike the Locust counterpart, is fully automatic as opposed to the burst fire. Also has Chainsaw Bayonet is the standard attachment to the Lancer Assault Rifle and is the only type of melee attack that will kill any enemy instantly. The chainsaw itself can be used to hack enemies into pieces with it's acuminous razor blades. The 'teeth' of the chainsaw are tipped with carbide compounds, and the bayonet has variable torque settings.
Back to weapons
Longshot Sniper Rifle Longshot Sniper Rifle has a powerful scope that is
attached on the weapon that can land pinpoint shots on targets. This weapon is extremely deadly in the hands of an expert, able to dispatch a foot soldier instantly with a well-placed headshot. It also does critical damage on any shot to the body. It is always best to aim for the head, however. The weapon is obviously difficult to use in close quarters. When it's down to the wire, it all depends on luck whether a sniper survives a close quarters fight.

Snub Pistol
The Snub Pistol is the standard sidearm for the COG forces. It has a small ammo capacity of twelve rounds and a semi-automatic firing mode. The Snub is usually only used in more critical situations, such as when a soldier is low on ammo for his primary weapons. The Snub does contain a moderate zoom setting in its integrated scope, which increases accuracy for longer ranges. Like its counterpart the Boltok Pistol, the Snub should otherwise be saved for dual situations.

Berserker Berserker's are the female and less intelligent
counterparts of the Drones. They cannot see, but instead rely on smell and sound. That means that if anyone moves too quickly or makes any other distinct sounds it will directly charge at the source of the sound. The Berserker will put her hand out in front of her and attempt to 'sniff out' her target. These Locusts will gain momentum when running to smash through a solid brick wall. They are unaffected by all weapons except the Hammer of Dawn, though after being struck by this weapon they become vulnerable to all others for a brief period of time.
Back to Locust Horde
Boomer Among the least sophisticated of the Locusts,
Boomers are gigantic, obese, and tougher versions of the Locust Drones that can take a lot of damage. A Boomer's weapon of choice is the Boomshot, which they will fire while habitually shouting "Boom!" Which acts as a warning for Gears to move out of the way. They are often seen partnered with other Boomers, but they do not use infantry tactics, instead they move forward slowly and fire their weapon.
Back to Back to Locust Horde
Brumak Brumaks are huge monsters with extraordinarily
thick hides. They often grow to about 12 meters in height and tend to weigh around 10,000 kilograms. Brumaks are deadly at close range, and they have also carry energy beam cannons to kill at a longer range. They also have been known to carry Drones into combat, as a transportation device. The Brumak is very powerful, capable of simply lashing aside a COG APC. Their weapon attachments also appear extremely powerful, firing high-explosive projectiles at its targets.
Back to Locust Horde
Corpser Corpsers appear as horrific giant spider-like monsters.
Their heads appear almost humanoid and are usually helmeted. Though they appear to have several glowing eyes when they are wearing their helmets, they actually only have two very small black eyes. Corpsers have eight thick rock camouflaged legs that guard their vulnerable caterpillar-like underbellies, which is the only exposed part of one's body. The Locust Horde uses Corpsers to dig tunnels through the soil of Sera, allowing the other members of Locust to move about undetected, and even allows the Horde to dig behind COG lines.
Back to Locust Horde
Drone Drones are the most common among the
collaboration of races known as the Locust Horde, playing the role of standard infantry on the battlefield. They appear to have a muscular humanoid body and have white skin due to their underground lifestyle. They are born and bred for combat, fearless even when outnumbered. It is believed that the locust Berserkers are the female of this race. They use the massive tunnel network under the planet's surface for troop movement and can quickly create portals almost anywhere on the surface called Emergence Holes, which they often use to surprise their enemies.
Back to Locust Horde
Grenadier Grenadiers are larger, stronger, tougher Locust. While the
Grenadiers can be counted among the Drones, they are generally stronger and bulkier. In battle, they often leave their upper torsos completely unarmored, possibly due to their lower life expectancy. Their teeth also seem slightly larger, adding to their menace. The grenadiers prefer close combat, and their weapon of choice is the Gnasher Shotgun. Grenadiers are not the most intelligent beings and have a habit of rushing toward their opponents, completely forgoing cover. They can throw grenades quite well, however, and if one is present with other Drones, your should make him your priority, as he excels over other Drones in all aspects of combat. Grenadiers should never be taken lightly. The Gnasher Shotgun is quite powerful and the grenade can be quite accurate during any engagement.
Back to Locust Horde
Kryll Kryll are a race of the Locust Horde. They are used to
defend areas of city late at night. Out of the races of the Horde, they are probably the most lethal. This is due to their piranha-like ability to completely devour their prey in seconds. They are underground-dwelling creatures and, due to the normally low amount of light in their caves, they avoid light if at all possible. Humans use this to their advantage at night to keep from being devoured. During the day they rest in locust tunnels and feed at night, so consumed by bloodlust that they will attack anything not under a light source, whether it be human or locust. The Kryll most likely joined the locust because of the promise of them providing a prime food source, humans.
Nemacyst
These flying, organic bombs spew forth from a Seeder's tail ends and make a beeline for the nearest COG unit or Chopper. Although they seem delicate and harmless upon their initial launch, they soon fix their sights on a target and accelerate. They detonate upon contacting their target and inflict heavy, usually lethal, damage.
RAAM
RAAM is mostly silent and savage Locust general with a dark cinematic presence. RAAM spent one year as a lowly Drone before being elevated to the rank of Theron Guard. He quickly proved himself as a Theron Guard, and within a few years, the cunning and ambitious RAAM usurped the military leadership of the Locust Horde. In battle he can shield himself with the Kryll. He can also command them to attack his enemies. He possesses great strength, able to wield a Troika machine gun by hand with ease.
Reaver
The Reaver's body structure and function are very complex, especially in the matters of how it is able to fly. The Reaver has a tough body with several tentacles in the back which probably act as the Reaver's flying limbs. How the Reaver uses these tentacles to fly is unknown.
Seeders Seeders are large, quadruped beasts that fire Nemacyst
spores out of their rear ends. They have also been known to jam radio transmissions. Seeders are perhaps the most bizarre creatures of the Locust Horde. Seeders possesses two mouths, one on each end of its body. The mouth on its rear end can technically be considered the creature's anus. When in battle, Seeders remain stationary with the front end of their bodies under the ground and their rears exposed. Underground, they are fed Nemacysts, which travel through their bodies and then are shot out of their rear mouths. Aiming is unnecessary as Nemacysts can seek out their targets once in the air.
Theron Guards Theron Guards are much tougher members of
the Locust. They are among the higher and more elite ranks, taking on roles such as field commander. They are stronger, faster, more tactical, and deadlier than any other Locust previously encountered. Therons are the only known Locust species to carry more than one weapon. They will switch accordingly, such as between Lancer and Gnasher in different situations.
Wretch
Wretches are members of the Locust Horde, they have relatively little health, but come in large numbers. They cling on surfaces, and attack unexpectedly. Their punches can be quite strong, and a few can incapacitate a Gear easily.

Player matches Player matches have no effect on the Gears of War
leaderboard ranks, allows users to invite friends or use split-screen mode (either two Gamertags or a Gamertag and a guest) and allows the host to swap the map's default weapons for those of their choice. By weapon swapping, what once might have been a sniper rifle could be a pair of grenades, thereby drastically changing the gameplay of the match and also allowing the option to turn on friendly fire. On June 14, 2007, an update containing new achievements allows the newly released achievements to be obtained in player matches.
Ranked matches
Ranked matches keep track of player statistics, give players a 'rank' on the Gears of War leaderboard, forbid invitations, cannot be played in split-screen mode, and can be played to get achievements.
Warzone Warzone mostly follows the standard Team
Deathmatch archetype, with each team trying to eliminate the other. The length of time during which a downed player can be revived before they die of blood-loss, also called the bleed-out time, can be set from 5 seconds up to 60 seconds. A post-release patch changed the maximum number of per-player revives from unlimited to two. On the third down, the player will automatically die.
Execution Execution is very similar to Warzone, except that
when an opponent is down, the opposing team must terminate the downed player up close. Should the opposing team fail to destroy the downed player during the allowed time, the player will be revived and will once again become a threat. A post-release patch changed the maximum number of per-player revives from unlimited to two. On the third down, the player will automatically die. The bleed-out time is applied here by altering the amount of time before a downed person rises again without any input from the player. Dead players do not respawn until the next round.
Assassination Assassination requires that teams focus on killing
the other team's designated leader while protecting their own. If a team's leader dies, that team loses the round. As of the most present patch, players die by rules of "Warzone", while leaders die by "Execution" rules. Prior versions before the third patch had both players and leaders dying by Warzone rules, and also required the leader to pick up a weapon before a fellow teammate could use it. Dead players do not respawn until the next round.
Annex Annex is when teams win by keeping control over key map locations,
or objectives, long enough to collect a winning number of points. Every map has two to five identified objectives available for capture, with one objective active at a time. Objectives are based on map weapon-spawn locations and have a potential value of 60 points toward either team’s score. Teams collect those points by maintaining ownership of an objective until all its 60 points have been distributed; players do not have to stay at the point to retain ownership but only prevent the enemy from approaching the point. Every second that a team controls an objective, the team gets one point. When an objective falls to zero points, the next objective is selected at random. Players can be downed following "Warzone" bleed out rules, but unlike the other game play modes, any dead players will respawn simultaneously at the next respawning interval, which occurs every 15 seconds beginning at the start of the round.
King of the Hill
King of the Hill is based a team on holding a single objective point per round. Though similar to Annex, teams must completely control and stay within the objective target circle to score points. Enemies are downed through Execution rules, so that a team has to "finish everyone up close" to retain control of the objective.
