The Problem• Healthcare providers (Doctors, Nurses, Physical
Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Psychologists) all require continuing professional development (CPD) to stay relevant
• There are few good systems beyond policy (you must do it) to engage these people in CPD
• In most disciplines, it is hard to discriminate the good from not-so-good CPD options
• Without good CPD, patient care suffers
The Solution

• An online hub for tracking CPD participation, achievements, recommendations, reviews, and connecting with others

The Mechanics• Different CPD will be worth different XP
• Read a scientific article and post a synopsis: 10 pts• Participate in a one-hour webinar: 15 pts• Participate in a 2-day workshop: 100 pts
• Badges will be accrued through different activities• Over 200 badges to collect, including ‘explorer’ (for those
who participate in CPD from different fields) and ‘disseminator’ (for those who post 5 article synopses)
• Levels can be gained through XP: Novice, problem solver, expert, master and visionary (the final level reserved for those who teach their own CPD)
Additional Mechanics• A Gifting mechanic for leaving reviews
• Leave a fair review of a course or workshop (‘fairness’ vetted through a designated person) and receive a 10% discount code for another course or workshop offered through the site that you must gift to another ‘player’ (another clinician)
• A Social Connection mechanic for finding like-minded users and those of similar experience
• A Recommendation algorithm based on prior courses, the user’s profile (what they want/need), and reviews of others like them
A Special Mechanic• Since good CPD should itself lead to clinical
behavior change that improves patient outcomes:• A mechanism for (anonymously) tracking overall
clinical outcomes and clinical behaviors through another existing web platform (e.g. ‘Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes’ at fotoinc.com)
• Highlight how behaviors and or outcomes have quantitatively changed since participating in CPD
• Receive a rare platinum badge (virtual and physical)
Advantages• Peer-based reviews of CPD courses and
workshops
• Rewards even simple CPD (reading articles, discussions with colleagues)
• Career profile / trajectory yields specific CPD recommendations
• Links in with existing CPD providers (e.g. Medbridge.com)
• A separate portal for providers of CPD to help them develop their teaching skills and course content
