The School has been existing since 1974, at first as a branch of Bergamo‘s Liceo Lussana, then, with its present name GALILEO GALILEI, as an independent Institute.

Since then the school has constantly increased its classes and courses. In school year 2009/2010 Liceo Galilei has 36 classes divided into two courses: the Scientific Course and (since 1992) the Language Course.

The laboratory can host 29 students. It’s equipped with modern security system (meeting the standards of the 626 Safety law) and with suitable instruments to discover the different aspects of Physics (rigid body’s mechanics, fluids’ mechanics, heat and calorimetry, acoustic and optics, electricity and magnetism).

Classes use the laboratory every week. Laboratory activities have the following function:•use the inductive method; •formulate hypothesis for the interpretation of events; •apply experimental method (verify the laws of Physics);

•apply the theory of mistakes.  

The process and the analysis of experimental data can be done using a specific teaching software.

Recently the school has bought an optical telescope useful for the observation of celestial bodies.The progressive development of the instruments improves the quality of the experiments of scientific subjects.

It’s built and accessorized with the most modern security apparati (for example: fire-extinguisher,oxygen masks...).It is provided with optical microscope with one or two eye-pieces, connected to the TV with videocameras, laser and other specific instruments.

Every linguistic class uses regularly the labs to study every subject of the 3 languages.The scientific classes use them every 15 days at least.

In the school there are two languages labs with 28 seats each.The main activities in the labs are the headphones listening and the use of documents in the original language.The lab is provided with a keyboard for the listening and the

individual correction of each student in real time.

The works of the students are shown to the public in an exhibition in the school at the end of the year called “Liceo in Mostra”.

In the school there are two classrooms for the art activities.Each class goes there twice a week.

The activities done are mechanical and architectonic drawing and projects, study and techniques of colours, black-white and red drawing, wash drawing and oil colours.

Laboratories have at least 14 computers and 7 printers each (the multi-laboratory has 18 pieces and 2 printers in a network).

The school has 2 computers laboratories, one multimedia lab and one assembly hall that can be used as a multimedia classroom. In addition there are many computer points and

audiovisual equipment, both fix and mobile.

They are used for at least one hour a week for programming in Pascal and/or for the students to use the teaching software installed(this software includes specific software packages).

The multimedia classroom with its 18 pieces connected in a network (LAN) and connected to the internet, is equipped for the use of multimedia products and for teaching activities that include word processing, on-line news in Internet and PowerPoint presentation, etc.

At the end of the school

year, in June, the Liceo

organizes one last activity:

the summer trekking,

dedicated to pupils and

teachers that are keen on

mountains and with a

“good pace” and ready to

walk amid rocks and snow

for four days.

It takes place every year in the “Palazzetto dello sport” for collecting funds to be given to different charities every year.

During the evening musical groups of students and teachers perform songs and are introduced by students.

It’s a competition of extemporany paintings, organized in collaboration with the local administration and other local sponsors where all the students interested in art  can participate.It takes place on a Sunday of May.

Its theme is  the characteristic of the village; in the afternoon  musical groups of the school perform songs in public, while every “artist” waits  for the award to  the best works, chosen by a jury.

At the end of the School year the students display, in the school, every work they have done during the year.

These are paintings, compositions, multimedial works done during the normal school activities or during afternoon  courses.

A lot of works are on  show  for the following  school year, making classrooms and corridors attractive.

INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS GAMES

Every year, for many years now, the students of the "Liceo"

have partecipated to:

The Physics Olympic Games, organized by the Italian Physics

association, a competition addressed to the classes of the last

three years and they are divided in different stages;

The Anacleto Games, the equivalent of the Physics Olympics

for the classes of the first two years;

The Archimedes Games, or Mathematics Competitions,

organized by Pisa’s “Normale University”, in cooperation with

the Union of Italian Mathematicians
