Future Simple

♯ Future plans.

♯ Definite future events.

♯ Offers or promises related to the future.

• Affirmative S + Will + V + CShe will play soccer

• Negative S + Will + not + V + CShe will not (won’t) play soccer

• Interrogative Will + S + V + C + ?Will she play soccer?

Future Going to

♯ Future plans, particularly if they’re likely tohappen soon.

♯ Predictions based on facts or events in thepresent .

• Affirmative S + to be + Going to + V + C

They are going to have a barbecue

• Negative S + to be + not + Going to + V + C

They are not going to have a barbecue

• Interrogative To be + S + Going to + V + C + ?

Are they going to have a barbecue?

Future Present Simple

♯ Actions or events based on a schedule orknown date.

♯ Future intentions.

• Affirmative S + V + C

The plane leaves at 6 p.m. today

• Negative S + do/does + not + V + C

The plane does not leave at 6 p.m. today

• Interrogative Does/Do + S + V + C + ?

Does the plane leave at 6 p.m. today?

Future Present Continuous

♯ The present continuous is used to talk about arrangements for events that are going to happen later.

♯ Imminent future events.

• Affirmative S + to be + V-ing + C

We are having a party on Friday

• Negative S + to be + not + V-ing + C

We are not having a party on Friday

• Interrogative: To be + S + V-ing + C + ?

Are we having a party on Friday?

Future Continuous

♯ Expresses action at a particular moment in the future.

• Affirmative S + Will + be + V-ing + C

Sergio will be doing his homework with Luis

• Negative S+ Will + not + be + V-ing + CSergio will not (won’t) be doing hishomework with Luis

• Interrogative Will + S +be + V-ing + C + ?Will sergio be doing his homework with Luis?

Future Perfect Continuous

♯ Used to indicate the duration of an action oran event.

• Affirmative S + Will + have been + V-ing + C

By the end of June, Mario will have been livinghere for 5 years

• Negative S + will + not + have been + V-ing + C

By the end of June, Mario will not (won’t) have been living here for 5 years.

• Interrogative Will + S + have been + V-ing + C + ?

Will Mario have been living here for 5 years by the end of June?

Future in the past

♯ Something that you planned but you did not do.

♯ Future in the Past follows the same basic rules as the Simple Future. "Would" is used to volunteer or promise, and "was going to" is used to plan.

• Affirmative S + Was/Were + going to + V + C

Sarah was going to buy a car, but she didn’thave money

• Negative S + Was/Were + not + going to + V + C

Sarah was not going to buy a car

• Interrogative Was/Were + S + going to + V + C + ?

Was Sarah going to buy a car?
