Founder’s Day in Qingdao Founder's Day 2013 at YCIS Qingdao, Qingdao Campus, was a huge success! The day started with the students being issued with brand new t-shirts in their house colours. Each child is in one of four different houses. The students then went to an assembly where they were taught about the history of Yew Chung and learned where all the different Yew Chung schools. It was an excellent opportunity for our geographically minded students to share their knowledge of China. We also got to see Mr. Geng dressed up as a cow, as a result of his raising the most money for the Seeds of Hope. An amazing 500RMB was donated for Mr. Geng alone, and a total of 1800 RMB was raised. Thanks to all the staff who were willing to take part and risk a day in the cow suit. Following this, we went outside, where thankfully the clouds had cleared to leave a beautiful, bright, warm autumn day. The students split into year groups and competed against their peers in a set of events including an exciting obstacle race, a hilarious 3- legged race and a basketball shoot out, all the while earning points for their house, thus fostering the collective spirit which we value so highly at our school. The events were competed for fiercely but all students were also exceptional sportspeople and had a great time. It was great to see year 1 students interacting with year 5 and 6 students. After the children had finished, the staff had a go at some of the games, with mixed results, providing much amusement for the students, who took a well- earned break. After lunch, there was a tug of war which proved hugely popular and provided a stunning victory for the Green Team, anchored to victory by the immense power of Mr. Mulliner. There was also a fundraising activity; throwing wet sponges at a hoop.

The day was one of fun and antics. Thanks must go to Mr. Geng for his enthusiastic organizing and participation.

This Founder’s Day we celebrated the 81st anniversary of YCIS.  To make the day a truly memorable experience for students and staff alike, the day was separated into special competitions for each level.  ECE students participated in their own fun filled treasure hunt around the campus culminating in

a treasure box full of sweet treats!  Separated into their 4 house teams, Primary students raced each other and the clock in a campus wide scavenger hunt where each clue had to be deciphered carefully to lead your team onto the next exciting activity located in 15 different spots around campus.  Teamwork was a must as each House team had to work together and follow the rules to complete the activity before receiving their next clue.  Again using the House model of competition the Secondary Students also had to learn to depend on each other to succeed as they completed 4 games requiring coordination and teamwork to complete (The moving circle, the pipe roll, the drum beat, and the team cheer).  We also had the exciting chance to use modern technology to say hello to our sister schools in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, and Chongqing as we all celebrated together this wonderful day in the history of YCIS.   The entire student body and teaching staff worked together on a gigantic art project using all of our hands to create a memory of this special day.  Our day ended as we joined together to celebrate the winners of our competitions and gather around our artistic masterpiece for a photo of this very memorable day.
