There are No Waiting Lists For Special Schools

Waiting lists in special education schools are considered illegal.

A school must come up with an appropriate IEP, resources, and teachers for any child that needs special education.

Schools have to evaluate a student for preparing an IEP in a fixed span of time.

Sign The Proposed IEP As Soon As Possible

Without signing it, you can’t file a complaint addressing any of your grievance.

If you don’t sign it, it will be assumed that you have implied consent even without signing it.

Contact an advocate or an attorney for any questions regarding IEP.

The law allows you to bring anyone as an advocate to the IEP meeting.

If you are not familiar with the process bring along someone who is familiar with the laws and process.

It is highly advised to bring an attorney or an advocate as a neutral third party.

Anyone Can Be Brought As An Advocate To The IEP Meeting

It is Not Necessary for Children With Severe Disabilities To Attend A Special School

Children with LD’s can be educated alongside regular students in regular classrooms as long as they show progress in their IEP goals.

Only if the child is not making progress in a regular classroom setting will a special program of school be considered.

Most People Are Ignorant About LD’s

90 percent of people understands that dyslexia is a learning disability.

Very few percent of people know that dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and dyspraxia are also considered a learning disability.

You Can Ask For A New IEP Meeting According To Your Wish

You mustn’t wait for the next annual IEP meeting to make modifications to the IEP.

An IEP meeting can be arranged within 30 days of your request.

The changes to the IEP are added as amendments.

Special Education Students Can Proceed To College Irrespective Of Special Education Laws

There are numerous colleges that provide curriculums for students with LD’s.

Statistically, only 10 percent of students having LD’s take up the four-year college program within two years of graduation(compared to 28 percent of the general population).
