1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? • I decided to choose two music genres for my magazine. After looking at different genre of music I decided what my magazine genre was going to be and the idea of what it’s going to look like. Straight away I started to look at media products which would influence my magazine. My magazine stuck to the media conventions. If my magazine looks completely different from other magazines in the genre I've chosen, my magazine wouldn't sell. My case studies had a high influence on my magazine, I like how both magazine is structured. Especially Kerrang because it would appeal to my target audience. • What makes my magazine a little different is because it’s a mixture of different genre but the genre are not completely opposite such as (rap and rock). Mixtures of genre that are similar to each other such as (indie, rock, punk, mental) Real media products focus on one genre but by mines being a mixture of genre which are similar, this will broaden my audience. The reason why I have chosen these magazines because both of the magazine genre are what my magazine is based on.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media

products?

CoverI have kept to the conventions with my masthead. I used the typical stand out colours for example black and white, I know that people would immediately look at the top of the page because of the bold colours and the contrast with the background colours. I had the model cover the masthead to show that the covers star is more important than the magazine itself. I had it in the corner of the magazine because most magazine have their masthead in the corner or across the top of the front cover. I decided to have the masthead in the corner to make it look professional and simple just like this NME magazine.

I like really like how the words are in a white box this makes the cover lines stand out.

I have the barcode in the corner of front cover, so the audience knows how much the magazine cost.

Contents Page

I made my content page look like this because I wanted to keep to the convention. The reason why I did this is because it makes it look professional and easy for the reader to navigate on my contents page. Second reason why I did my contents page like this because most rock magazine contents page is structured like this. My content page has the issue number and the date at the top of the page, to tell the reader how late the edition of my magazine. Under the sub-headings there is a little bit of information about what the article is about. At the bottom of the content page there subscription box and website address.

Contents page part 2There are few similarities with my content page and the Kerrang content page. One similarity is structure of the magazine. All the information is on the right side of my content page. Second similarity is the picture being on the left hand side of the page and having other images on the left side as well. The reason why I did my contents page like this because its easy for the reader to navigate around the page.

DPS (Double Page Spread)My double page spread layout has elements of NME and Kerrang. On the left hand side of my double page spread is a huge picture.. You would see this is in regular rock magazines. However the structure of the magazine is slightly different from the conventional way of doing double page spread. My double page spread has a column about the cover stars, which gives more information about the band to the reader. By having the facts column on the side, makes the reader feel like know much more about the artists.

My DPS was a interview about my cover stars, it wasIn structure of Q&A.

2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• Ethnicity: What makes my magazine different is the cover stars I had on my magazine. At first I was looking for the typical look for my front cover. However I change my mind and decided to choose people of different ethnicity and to make them my group. To show that a certain type of people are in rock and indie magazines.

• Gender: Most rock and indie magazines have male groups and artist on the front cover. However what makes my magazine different is because my cover stars are female. The reason why I had female cover stars is to prove that women rock/ indie bands are as good as male bands. Also to get more of a women audience.

• Class: the class my magazine targeted is the working class. You can see that through my cover stars in the way they dress. Both of my cover stars are wearing typical clothing that young adults would wear . Which is important because by having bands that the audience can relate too, which is essential.

• Contents and colours: The colours that I used is conventional, the colour scheme is seen in a lot of rock magazines. The content in my magazine is very similar to Kerrang and NME.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and

why?

• The media institution I’ve chosen is IPC media. The reason why I chosen this media institution for my media product is because of how much experience they have with distributing magazines. IPC media has distributed NME, which is a highly successful magazine. NME has a website (www.nme.com) NME TV/Radio and brand and live events. Which has over millions of fans.

• The reason why I have chosen this as my media institution because I believe that they will promote my magazine on many media platforms.
