QUESTION 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your product and why?

QUESTION 3

Lets take a look at what I researched into possible film distributors. Lionsgate was my first choice and looking at the film we created I think that having Lionsgate distribute our film was a good idea. This is because they have created a lot of films in our genre, films such as saw which is a very gruesome and gory and our zombie film would also be gruesome and gory meaning they would know exactly how to go about distributing our film, the target audience we need to aim the film at, where and how to advertise the film and what to do after the film has been released. Because of their previous experience it makes them a really good candidate for distributing our film. They would really focus on making it a horror. Also with them being such a big company they would have had a much bigger film budget for our film meaning we could focus a lot more on mise en scene and making the film actually look like it’s set in a post apocalyptic world. The cameras would be more expensive therefore better quality meaning the cinematography would have been better and more diverse. Also the quality of the green screen would have been better. But overall everything we did would have been a lot better.

QUESTION 3

Warp films was also a possible distributor for our film. They as stated in my research a local company that specialize in low budget films and distribute them nationally. One thing is they don’t distribute that many horror films therefore it makes you wonder if they are the right people to distribute our film. They are a good film company therefore they would have given us a good budget but they like to invest more into different films that are strange and out of the box. Our film is quite similar to others of it’s kind therefore they may not invest as much into our film as they may do into others. Nevertheless we would have had a bigger budget so could do a lot more. But distribution wouldn’t be as good as maybe a bigger company but that doesn’t mean it won’t be well distributors but it does make more sense to go with a bigger production company.

QUESTION 3

Looking at similar films and their distribution companies I saw World War Z was distributed by paramount pictures which is a company just as big as Lionsgate and they managed to distribute their film to a huge audience and became one of the most successful horror films of 2013. Because of their huge budget they were able to do cinematography that we couldn’t do like Ariel shots to establish the scene and because we don’t have the money for a helicopter we didn’t have the ability to do these shots. Also they had money for special effects which we didn’t. All of this made their film much better so if we had this kind of budget then maybe we could have done something similar and made something out of the film.
