Question 3 of Media Evaluation
Citation preview
What kind of Media Institution might distribute your Media product and why?
By Raychelle Shaw
• My magazine will be sold in newsagents and supermarkets.
• Selling my magazine in common places means that more people from my target audience will be able to access my product.
• The main supermarkets it will be sold in will be Asda, Tesco, Morrison's and Sainsbury's as these are popular and well frequented supermarkets.
• Also my magazine will be sold on the magazine’s website, www.HeadBanger.com, which will make it available to those who spend time on the internet, subscriptions will also be available to sign up and pay for on a monthly basis, selling it on the internet will allow the younger members of my audience to access it.
Where is my magazine sold?
Where is my magazine sold cont…
• As now days most teenagers and young adults are online I have decided to have a website for my magazine.
• I also thought having other social networking sites would provide a wider audience so I will have a twitter page and a Facebook page, each of these will have a link to the website and the subscription form, this means that attention will be attracted from a wider range of my target audience and they will be able to access and buy the magazine.
Where my magazine is not sold.
• My magazine will not be sold in I would not sell my magazine at gig venues as the crowd will be more interested in the music and the band/artist merchandise.
• I also would not sell my magazine in a clothing store that sells clothes specifically for fans of rock, as my magazine would not gain a wide enough audience as not all rock fans wear ‘rock specific clothing’.
Other Institutions.
The publisher that I would have publishing my magazine is Bauer Media Group, as they
are a multinational media company, and worldwide sales of Bauer’s magazines amounts
to 38 million magazines a week meaning that my magazine will have a wide circulation in
different countries. Also, as Bauer owns and publishes Kerrang and Q which are similar
in genre and style to mine, publishing a new magazine will allow them to introduce a
product with my magazine’s particular features and content to a niche and new audience.
Bauer would be likely to sell my magazine as it generally sticks to the conventions of a
rock magazine but adds it’s own flare to the market, my magazine whilst using some of
Kerrang as a basis it does not completely follow the style Kerrang adheres to. When
looking on Bauer’s website they had these quotes ‘BAUER MEDIA REACHES OVER
NINETEEN MILLION UK ADULTS EVERY WEEK’. And ‘We connect people and
communities with compelling and quality content, whenever, wherever and however they
want’. These quotes adhere to what I would need from a publishing company as I know
my younger audience would be interested in enjoyable content and my older audience
would be attracted to a well known sophisticated magazine with a well known and
successful publisher.
