• VOICETHREAD• COMPARE WITH PROFESSIONAL EXAMPLES THAT HAVE

Poster ResponseBACKGROUND• Arguably my poster challenges the form and conventions of other real

media products by being influenced by SCARFACE and AMERICAN GANGSTER. This is shown through the use of binary opposites which are presented on my poster and both real media products as the spilt black and white background could symbolize the contrast between the moral dichotomy of good vs evil. Possibly implying that the poster has religious connotations of decision to choice between good or evil, relating to Leon’s decision of choosing between loyalty to Vladmir (his new companion) or loyalty to his deceased lover, by getting justice for her death arranged by Vladmir. This is also reinforced by the tagline, ‘LOYALTY IS THE ENEMY’ being that loyalty is Leon’s enemy. With Seb Stewart playing Vladmir as the main image of my poster could also connote his decision to choose evil against good by being the drug lord.

Continued response

• As well as the binary opposites, skylines are also dominant within gangster genre posters, once again relating to AMERICAN GANAGSTER and SCARFACE. However these only differ to my poster because they are skylines based in America and mine is based in London. Although skylines within gangster genre posters allows the audience to gather a clear understanding of the location, it could also connote the movement of the drug lords and his men by representing a skyline of the city in which they are based.

TITLE • The title ‘EXPIRED’ arguably has connotations for the expiring of Leon’s time

investigating into the crimes committed by Vladmir or the expiring of Leon’s decision to choose between his loyalty to Vladmir or the loyalty and justice of Lauren. Overall the expiring connotes to the lack of time and decision making that Leon has.

Continued ResponseUSE OF COLOUR• Black and white are not the only colours that convey the genre and

narrative of the poster but red which is the colour of blood, could have connotations of danger, power, passion and determination. Which are themes that can be associated with the trailer. Red is also very eye-catching which will attract my audience to my poster, intriguing them to find out more about the production. Scarface also influenced this decision by also having a red masthead.

CREDITS • The credits located below my poster are clear conventions of film posters

across all genres, however within the real media products that I’ve looked at AMERICAN GANGSTER especially does not contain any credits on the poster both rather just features, the names of the two main actors
