A media institution is an established, and often profit based organization, that deals in the creation and distribution of advertising, entertainment and information services. It helps in gathering information, and perceptions about different groups of people and their originality. It can also be defined as the cultural and political conventions within which media products are constructed.

The first distribution company I have chosen is Studio Canal, it is a French based production and distribution company that owns the third largest film library in the world. The company is owned by the Canal+ Group which is owned for the most part by Vivendi, and Universal Studios. Studio Canals most popular productions from its early years include Terminator 2: Judgment day, JFK, Basic Instinct, Cliffhanger, Under Siege, Free Willy and the original Stargate movie.Studio Canal would distribute my film as they have done horror films such as the original Evil Dead trilogy and also its remake 2013 which is similar to my film and it made $97,542,952 (US).Studio Canal have also distributed The Last Exorcism which is a supernatural horror film. This shows my film would be successful if it was to be distributed by this company as it is a well known distribution company and has a wide horror fan base due to the success of the Evil Dead franchise and inspirational horror film for younger directors.

The second distribution company I have chosen Universal Studios which is an American motion picture studio. It is one of the six major movie studios. It is the second oldest movie studio in the United States of America.Universal Studios would distribute my film as it is one of the most well known studios and is known to have distributed old fashioned horror films such as Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy, also newer hybrid horror films such as The Thing. This would be an advantage for my horror film as these are very popular movies of this genre. My film being distributed by this company would show that my film could be as popular as these films. This would be beneficial financially as these films have made a lot of money, for example Frankenstein made $12,000,000 in the 1930’s but as money is worth more now, my film could make more.
