How effective was your research into similar film posters and the Action/Adventure film genre.

My research saw me look at the conventions of the Action/Adventure genre. I found this information important as was fairly effective as I did follow some of the designs of the posters like the ones I looked at had some sort of forest in but I knew what I was doing before I started to do the poster research just finalised what I wanted to do.

What did you learn from your research?

I learnt that most Action/Adventure film posters have some sort of action in them but most of the back grounds have adventure in them. They also have blurred back grounds for effect and the character is at the front covering most of the poster. And most of the poster backgrounds are black so I wanted to do something different so I put a back ground that looks like a forest even though it is a disused railway. And the person is facing backwards because it is how I wanted the poster to be. I did make a different poster which was the same but had a background to do with war instead of a disused railway as my film is meant to be set in the war.

How closely does your film poster follow the forms and conventions of existing film posters?

My poster kind of follows the conventions and forms of a poster because I spent the majority of my time looking at film posters to get an idea of what they look like and how they are set out. The background is tranquil and the character in the poster top make the place look peaceful even though it is set in the war but the war hasn’t gotten that far yet as it has only just started so I wanted the background of the poster to look peaceful.

How would your film posters appeal to the target audience?

My film poster would appeal to the target audience because it looks like a film poster and it is a strange poster because the film is a war film but it looks peaceful so it would make people go and watch it because they wouldn’t understand why a war film has such a tranquil poster. I did make another poster that wasn’t tranquil it was in a war zone but I didn’t think that it would be a good film poster so it is the teaser poster instead.

How successful are your finished film posters? What are its strengths and

weaknesses?

One of my finished posters was successful because it was better than the other one and it looked like a film poster. The other one wasn’t as successful because it just looked like a poster for a war film which isn’t what I was going for I wanted it to have some mystery so if it was a real poster people would want to go and watch the film as the poster wouldn’t give what the film was about. Its strengths are that it looks like a film poster and it does have some detail to prove that it is a film poster like the actors, title, website, billing and date of being released.

Its weaknesses are that it has one actor, the background is too tranquil for a war film, the other posters background was to war related so it is hard to find a medium of not too tranquil but not to war related if I was to do it again I’d use a photo from the start of a war where things are still tranquil but the war hasn’t started fully yet so it is kind of in the middle of still fairly peaceful but the war is starting to become serious.
