Paragraph Unity• A paragraph usually revolves around a certain or a main

emPHAsis• Special forcefulness of expression that gives importance to

something singled out. special importance, value, or prominence given to something. The topic emphasized in each paragraph must support the main idea of an essay, and in turn, the supporting details within the paragraph must back up the topic sentence. Using this approach, it is not hard to create a clear, concise, piece of writing that is easily understandable to readers.

• Ex:Essay Topic – Vhong Navarro Assault

• Paragraph 1 – Details of the Assault• Paragraph 2 – Deniece Millet Cornejo and Cedrik Lee• Paragraph 3 – Hard Evidence on Case• Paragraph 4 – Conclusion

COHERENCE

Paragraph Coherence• Coherence - it means that with the help of transitions and clear

explanation of each idea in our writing we try to create links which help the readers move smoothly from idea to idea within the paragraph.

• Example:• My hometown is famous for several amazing natural features . First, it

is noted for the Wheaton River, which is very wide and beautiful. On the other side of this river, which is 175 feet wide, are many willow trees which have long branches that can move gracefully in the wind. In autumn the leaves of these trees fall and cover the riverbanks like golden snow. Second, on the other side of the town is Wheaton Hill, which is unusual because it is very steep. Even though it is steep, climbing this hill is not dangerous, because there are some firm rocks along the sides that can be used as stairs.
