PROBLEM THAT LED TO THE POINT OF PRIDE

IMPLEMENTATION

*Ike has many students who need extra help with specific goals in mind…such as TEST TAKING

SKILLS, CAREFUL LISTENING and a variety of MATH STRATEGIES to use for Constructed Response. The staff was provided the opportunity to conduct an

after-school tutoring session for two months….deciding on a maximum of five students per classroom. The word “college” was used often

in many student conversations, thereafter.

The POWER OF WORDS……..? The need in Genesee County is great….based on Federal statistics, Genesee County is one of the most unhealthy places to live in Michigan. According to the Surgeon General: Children should receive 150-225 minutes of physical education per week. There is also a deficit in the district’s general fund to support the funding to support programs and the implementation of new programs.

HIGHLIGHTS !!!BUILDING CONFIDENCE!

The members of the Academy were at all levels of Reading and Math…but ALL gained confidence in their abilities and felt as if they were BRILLIANT in every way!!!!

BRILLIANCE !!

EVIDENCE OF EFFECTIVENESSThe members of the After-School Academy and

Crim were excited about learning, and they did not want the experiences to end. Students were

making healthier choices at lunchtime and were more likely to choose healthy snacks.

Soon after beginning the “College Prep”….and participating in CRIM activities…word traveled all

over the school, as staff and students noticed these students taking on LEADERSHIP ROLES

throughout the day.

The power of words and ACTIVITY was evident in actions.

CHALLENGES

•The only challenge with this program was at the beginning when we realized that most students

could not stay after school due to the lack of transportation. Soon after that…the challenge

was a positive one….

we had a WAITING LIST !!!!!

CRIM Challenges: Funding and Instructional time

SUPPORT!!!Our Eisenhower Leadership Team had written this tutoring program into our budget at the beginning of the school

year. Several classroom teachers participated for nearly 2 months, 2 hours each evening, Monday through Thursday.

CRIM:

The Crim Liaison is our

Physical Education Teacher at Eisenhower budgeted with Crim funding.

LOOKING FORWARD…

We’re looking forward to starting these programs at the beginning of the school year, and inviting more students

to participate. We would like to embrace new partnerships with the community to support this

program.

We look forward to our IKE students gaining confidence and motivation to THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX and look to

their futures as Healthy LEADERS and COLLEGE GRADUATES!!!!
